What are your favourite quotes of all time?

I get weirdly emotional reading quotes, and I LOVE finding new ones.

Mine are:

“What matters most is how well you walk through the fire” - Charles Bukowski

“But they had built each other strong enough to heal” - in DD’s favourite book ‘Girls’. I always get a bit watery-eyed when I read this to her!

'what other people think of you is none of your business'

Mine is one I use whenever someone gives birth - "A baby cried, and a world began"

I also like "A university is a log with a student sitting on one end, and a teacher sitting on the other"

Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable

When someone shows you who they are, believe them

Don't take life too serious son; it ain't nohow permanent.

"I told you I was ill" on Spike Milligan's gravestone.

"Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing"

Theodore Roosevelt

These are great. I also have one in French, from a school course book. If I have remembered correctly
'Ne pas perdre ta vie a la gagner'

which I think translates as 'Do not lose your life by trying to win it's.

I also like ' This is your life, it is not a rehearsal', which I often say to my dss.

And my last one (for now) 'It is better to be kind than to be right'.

"I've been told to pick up my sword and fight for love, little did I know that Love had won for me" (actually a lyric)

"What you aren't changing, you're choosing"

"Often the hardest thing to do is the best thing"

Lead me

Or get out of my way.

One of mine sounds depressing:
"the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation"
But I use it to remind myself that we rarely know what someone else is going through, and to try to be patient and understanding with them!

Enterthedragons · 20/08/2020 07:35

My DD’s have ‘The Girls’ book and I love that line too!

PennyDreadfuI · 20/08/2020 10:32

"Give in to lust, give up to lust, oh heaven knows we'll soon be dust"

From Pretty Girls Make Graves by the Smiths.

It's not just about giving up to lust (but also that Grin) - my interpretation of it was always to live in the moment and make the most of it because life is short.

I'm not sure Morrissey would agree with my interpretation however!

Never argue with a fool, he will drag you down to his level and beat you with his experience. I think it's attributed to Mark Twain.
