Days out around Dorking?! Any ideas to help us out?

Right mumsnetters, you wonderful people helped me smash a recent holiday to
Chichester with some amazing local knowledge so I'm hoping to repeat the experience but this time around Dorking.

Problem is we're already here so don't have much lead time Grin

DS(8) and DD(5) we have bikes but can't go on roads / hills as DD is too young.

Looking for outdoorsy ideas mainly so walks / gardens / country parks etc.

Big fans of mini golf too so any recommendations around that would be welcome.

An obvious one but we stayed at Denbies last weekend and there was plenty to do. You can book a train tour of the vineyard which might be fun?

JoJoSM2 · 19/08/2020 21:10

The Volunteer has a lovely setting so it’s great to go for a walk in the area and have lunch there afterwards.

Rudyruby · 19/08/2020 21:26

Polesden Lacey is lovely. Box Hill - great views and walks. Also, a long activity trail for the kids.

feliciabirthgiver · 19/08/2020 21:41

30 mins to Fishers Farm which my DD's adore

notmrscookie · 19/08/2020 21:45

Maybe get a national trust card .. I have saved loads on it ..so many places locally to explore...Tilgate park Crawley is free small charge for nature centre

elizabell · 19/08/2020 21:47

The Stepping Stones at Box Hill.
Bocketts Farm
Denbies
A drive to Shere / Guildford etc etc

Startoftheyear2020 · 19/08/2020 21:49

Walk up to Leith Hill Tower they sell the most amazing home made cakes!

JoJoSM2 · 19/08/2020 21:49

Oh yes, Bocketts Farm is lovely with kids. You might need to pre-book, though (at least we had to last time we went to keep numbers down with Covid).

LIZS · 19/08/2020 21:55

Shere is a pretty village with a stream through the centre for paddling and tea rooms / pubs. I think there are cycle paths around there too.

milienhaus · 19/08/2020 21:58

Box Hill is great but the Stepping Stones are rubbish, do the other walks!

DangerousMouse · 19/08/2020 22:33

Priory park in Reigate

DangerousMouse · 19/08/2020 22:35

Depending how far you want to travel - Frensham ponds, Brighton Beach, chessington world of adventures, painshill Park, for bike riding Kenley airport is perfect, it's disused and a lovely flat ride

DangerousMouse · 19/08/2020 22:37

Epsom has a good mini golf area called Jungle Island and there is also one in Brighton, I haven't been but it looks very different, like neon dinosaurs..!

DangerousMouse · 19/08/2020 22:38

Oooh Nutfield Priory nature trail is a must, then pop over the road to the farm shop for sausage rolls and other goodies

Esbm2015 · 19/08/2020 22:40

Waggoners Wells and Ludshott Common or Hankley Common all nice to walk around. We spotted plenty of families at W Wells last weekend when we were there.

FusionChefGeoff · 19/08/2020 23:19

Wow what a brilliant response thanks so much. Lots to work through - I'm not great in the car so don't really want to travel that far but there's some great suggestions here.

More specifically, we're also after walks / parks to visit with DB and DSIL with DN in the pram - any of the above good for exploring with wheels?!

I'd second Tilgate Park, you'd need to book the nature centre but if there aren't any tickets the park itself is still lovely. Lots of trees to climb a brilliant playground and pushchair friendly.
Box Hill has a lovely children's trail but it'll be hard going on wheels after all this rain!
Priory Park in Reigate is lovely, mostly buggy friendly with a playground and a little lake
Holmwood Common has a nice, buggy friendly circular walk with a pond full of friendly ducks at Forwents Pond (have a stop at the Holly and Laurel Emporium for cake!)
The name escapes me but there's a nice nature reserve in Horsham which has a buggy friendly walk
Earlswood Lakes have a nice cafe and boats for hire
If you park at the top of Reigate Hill you can walk along to the old WW2 Fort (free entry) and the further along to a bomb crater and viewpoint
I'll have a think for some more.....

crumpet · 19/08/2020 23:39

How far would you be from Arundel Castle?

Nannylp · 19/08/2020 23:39

a second for priory Farm too, lovely nature trail for kids and seriously good treats in the farm shop

Nannylp · 19/08/2020 23:58

There are so many good pubs in the surrey hills with good walks around them, though not buggy friendly.
The plough in coldharbour
The hurtwood Inn in peaslake
The Stephen Langton in Friday street
Are some of my favourites.
If you head over guildford way hatchlands Park is good and pop in to see the silent pool on the way back. Or have an ice cream by the stream in abinger

FusionChefGeoff · 20/08/2020 00:00

@Nannylp woo hoo that is expert local knowledge indeed thanks so much.

Perfect - we'll have a summit over cereals and tea and make a plan for the next few days.

Yippee!
