I’ve booked a long weekend for us. Nice hotels are cheap! Booked the Natural History Museum too.

Is it much quieter at the moment?

Very pleasant. I have been to a few museums and they are all very organised. Oxford St is pretty empty.

GreyGardens88 · 19/08/2020 09:14

It's raining

I work in London and only there during the week during which time it is quiet compared to normal and there are very few obvious tourists.

So long as you are careful, I should think now is the perfect time for visiting. The hotel would be my main concern.

I work in London and it's still quiet but has picked up with people travelling. Just be careful

Depend on where you go. I live in East London near the big Westfield shopping centre and it is packed with people every day going to shops and restaurants and so is the nearby Olympics Park.

Central London is much quieter than usual and public transport is quiet-ish although there are still a fair number of people using the tube.

I think it is a good to enjoy the museums/galleries without the crowds. You might need to book in advance in some places though.

It's lovely. All of the attractions are on a massively reduced capacity therefore you can actually take your time and enjoy things rather than being propelled along by the crowds. Public transport is noticeably quieter too, a big highlight for my dc has been the 'private buses' ie we are the only passengers. We would usually be standing on buses or the tube.

We were meant to be going to Marrakech but off to London instead, only two hours by train. Smile I used to live in London, I feel like a country bumpkin now. I miss Crouch End where I used to live!

I’m pregnant so it might be our last holiday for a while!

I live here. It's very quiet. Loving it tbh. I'd visit now if I were you. If you're planning on eating out Mon-Wed I'd have a think about where and make sure you book it.

MrsWhites · 19/08/2020 09:33

We went two weeks ago, natural history museum was fantastic, able to see everything so much better with such low numbers of visitors allowed. We found shopping areas still relatively busy but tourist areas were really quiet, we had lovely weather too so made for a lovely visit.

MrsWhites · 19/08/2020 09:35

Oh yes, definitely would book restaurants if you are visiting mon-wed, they were pretty packed out with the 50% off scheme!

MarcelineMissouri · 19/08/2020 09:38

We went last weekend for a long weekend in place of our planned 3 weeks in California Hmm
It was really quiet. We stayed near county hall, had a wander round Buckingham palace etc, went on the London eye and went to the aquarium, and also went to the natural history museum! Our dc are 8 and 5 and it felt like a great time to take them actually as we weren’t fighting crowds. It all felt a little surreal. Before dc we also lived and worked in London and seeing everything so quiet, especially the tube, was really weird!

FrontRowSeat · 19/08/2020 09:50

Are the markets still open? Brick Lane, Spitalfields, Camden etc?

shepherdessbush · 19/08/2020 10:04

Yes markets still open.

Happicuppa · 19/08/2020 10:15

Restaurants and pubs are packed in the evening but I've been to a couple of museums where you had to book a slot and it's been really pleasant and not too crowded. I find the buses generally quiet too.

frustrationcentral · 19/08/2020 10:16

My DS went with a group of friends yesterday, he said oxford street was pretty quiet. They spent the evening sight seeing along the south bank and it was very quiet!

Goyle · 19/08/2020 12:05

The inner suburbs like Brixton, Camberwell and Peckham are getting very busy but once you're in Zone 1 you wonder if you've entered the Twilight zone.

I don't like it. It doesn't feel like London anymore. The buzz has gone.
