Soup maker...dust gatherer or game changer?

I make a fair amount of soup, usually lentil or minestrone, chunky soup with bits.

I use a pot and a spoon.

Should 8 buy a soup maker?

Nope. Mines been in a cupboard for ages and I still make it in a pan. Saves you no time or effort honestly.

I got one that did soups and smoothies and managed to make banana soup in it.

God, the smell!

Envy not envy

DramaAlpaca · 17/08/2020 22:03

Nope. For any soup all you need is a pan and maybe a blender.

And I bet a soup maker is a pain to clean and won't go in the dishwasher.

ManxRhyme · 17/08/2020 22:03

Seems pointless to me. Most don't have sufficient volume capacity. I'd get an instant pot instead. At least you can cook other things with it and still do soups in a fraction of the time.

I use my slow cooker.

wishingitwasfriday · 17/08/2020 22:05

We had one that we used during a 4 month house renovation as we didn't have a cooker. Was a godsend. As soon as the new kitchen was in it went in the bin as it had died from overuse! Wouldn't buy another one though as just as easy to make on the hob.

Yesterdayforgotten · 17/08/2020 22:08

Soup makers, slow cookers are dust gathers imo... get a multi cooker as they do it all including saute, pressure cook, slow cook and more, couldn't live without mine.

Yesterdayforgotten · 17/08/2020 22:09

Multi cooker aka power pot, instant pot, king pro etc

LemonyFace · 17/08/2020 22:12

LOL at banana soup - Yum (not!)

SingingSands · 17/08/2020 22:15

Dust gatherer.

I like to use a pot. Soup is a tinkering process. I like the stirring and the tasting and adding a pinch of whatever.

notacooldad · 17/08/2020 22:18

There's loads on face book market place.
Maybe buy one cheap and flog it after it has sat in the cupboard for a while.

Em4815 · 17/08/2020 22:18

I use mine a few times a week! Definitely a game changer for me.

Lonecatwithkitten · 17/08/2020 22:33

Dust gatherer that stuff about not needing to precook anything means you just have soup that tastes of raw onion.
Better investment is a king pro that you can brown onions in then set to slow cook soup.

NanTheWiser · 17/08/2020 22:35

Well, I like mine! I have soup for lunch every day from October to April, so I make a batch up on a Sunday for the week. I bought mine (Morphy Richards sauté and soup), about 4 years ago, and wouldn’t be without it.
If you make soup regularly, I think you would get a lot of use out of it.

ClearTheDecks · 17/08/2020 22:36

I have a pan, wooden spoon and a hand blender.

Am I missing out?

flowerrful · 17/08/2020 22:37

We've just got one and teenage DD is using it to bulk make soup for school lunches. It browns onions.

CrotchetyQuaver · 17/08/2020 22:39

i'm a great fan of our soup maker, it's consistently our most used appliance. i find it great for weekday lunchtimes. come in, wash hands, fire up the soup maker then crack on tidying up the kitchen/washing up/brew up in the 20 minutes it takes for the soup to cook.

CostaCosta · 17/08/2020 22:53

Definitely dust gatherer. I couldn't give mine away, no one would take it!

Gilead · 17/08/2020 22:54

Love my soup maker and wouldn’t be without it. I have EDs and arthritis so lifting pans and using hand blenders is out of the question.

ivykaty44 · 17/08/2020 22:55

I gave mine away

baggies · 17/08/2020 23:02

Dust gatherer. Used it a couple of times. Soup didn't taste the same. Back to big pan and blender, more control, much easier and less washing up.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/08/2020 23:04

I'll happily have anyone's if they're giving one away, I've been looking at them this week!!!

Impatientwino · 17/08/2020 23:05

Love ours in the cooler months. Minimal effort and only one thing to wash up. Chuck it all in and 20 mins later super smooth or chunky (by choice) soup! It's tiny to store as well just a jug really and the cable lives inside it!

noodledoodler · 17/08/2020 23:08

Also a vote for an instapot, I regularly used a soup maker before getting one and the soup tastes so much better from the instapot.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 17/08/2020 23:20

I have EDs and arthritis so lifting pans and using hand blenders is out of the question.

Arthritis in the hands - my 'soup maker' is a faux Thermomix (aka a heated blender with a gentler stirrer function) and it's very useful. It went through a phase of not working a while back until I managed to get an air compressor and tiny brush to clear something and I was surprised by how much I missed it.

I also have an Instant Pot and use it all the time.

AlwaysLatte · 17/08/2020 23:26

I use a big soup pan and a stick blender.
