Blood on sofa

I have endo and terrible periods. Today I've bled through a blanket onto my striped sofa. Any idea how I could remove it please? I can't use bleach on it.

Cold salted water and an absorbant cloth

Tartyflette · 17/08/2020 21:37

'Vanish' (or similar) stain remover and water?

Lurchermom · 17/08/2020 21:38

Salt usually removes blood and COLD water. Hot water will set it

Always cold water op, never hot, it seals it, cold water and salt will remove it. If not buy a commercial stain remover but do a fabric test first.

AKissAndASmile · 17/08/2020 21:39

Yes to cold water
Bleach doesn't work on blood

TenShortStories · 17/08/2020 21:40

As gross as it sounds, saliva works brilliantly.

Bicarbonate of soda and cold water

ProudMarys · 17/08/2020 21:45

If it's fresh and not dried in, I pour (cold) tap water on blood. My son has nose bleeds quite a bit and find just pouring cold water from a bottle and blotting it up with an old towel works fine.

Great advice, I just wanted to say as someone who has endometriosis I hope you are feeling ok, it's a tough disease. Sending hugs 🤗

Bargebill19 · 17/08/2020 22:03

Dr beckmans stain remover for blood works well. Try on the underneath of the sofa first.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

KenAdams · 17/08/2020 22:45

Thanks all I've basically tried all of your suggestions. I've left it with Vanish on it for now and I'll see how it is tomorrow.

Thanks @mellowgreenspring I struggle to leave the house because I flood so much so I'll just need to start putting bed mats down everywhere.

Have you tried taking transexamic acid? I have the same problem and it changed my life! I once did an entire tube journey not realising my jeans were soaked .Blush

Now I’m getting older my periods are changing a bit and the last two have been much better and I haven’t even needed any drugs , so there is hope

KenAdams · 18/08/2020 16:59

OH.MY.GOD. Vanish did nothing so I popped some salt on it when I took it out of the wash and left it there for a while. The stain is completely gone. I'm astounded, thank you so much.

@tootyfruitypickle unfortunately the doctors won't let me have it due to other medical conditions. All I can have is decapeptyl and I can't handle the hot flushes with it :(

Glad it worked!

Heavy periods are crap.
