Ring doorbells

If you have a Ring doorbell how did you decide which model to go for?

Is it easy to fit and set up?

Is there much difference between 2nd and 3rd generation?

I went for the model which suits the criteria we need. Good camera, good sound. Easy ISH to set up. Just need to add that I had to up our wi fi. Also quite critical how far your camera is from router, had a few issues with garden one if anyone stands stuff Infront of router. However I have tried a few cameras an this does what I need it to. Have sent about four back for various reasons mainly picture quality. Also if you have foil insulation on your house none of this type will work, you will need a hard wired one.

Got ours from Amazon for £99. Well pleased with it. Great wide-angle image quality.

I've hard-wired mine so the battery is always fully-charged. Saves me having to remove it to re-charge

Dh set ours up and it seemed fairly simple. The most complicated part it the set up on your phone but even that’s pretty simple. I would definitely recommend it. We also have the ring alarm system and it’s excellent.

Yes and love it. It's a few years old now so probably first generation but would totally recommend. I didn't hardwire it so it needs recharging about every three months (I know they say a year but either we're raging socialites or that's overly optimistic) but it's no hassle, just lift down and plug in.

To all you Ring-owners, do you ever watch back over the day and have you ever seen anything suspicious? (I'm assuming it records?)

Glittertwins · 19/08/2020 10:35

We bought ours 2 years ago not sure which generation it is. At the time, it was the mid-range model.
It is quite a way from our router so we have a WiFi extender inside, near where the bell is situated and we can't hardwire so have a second battery that we swap out to recharge.

Do you need the chime thing so you can hear it throughout the house? I don't want to be taking my phone from room to room.

Quarantinedream, the videos are stored for free in the first 30 days then it's £2.50 a month for the basic so you can retrieve images up to 30 days old (I think it's 30 days) Nothing suspicious though (yet Grin)

bendmeoverbackwards, I carry my mobile or it's in my pocket so no issue with hearing/viewing/answering it. I don't think the actual doorbell makes a sound. I could be wrong, but can't check as it's pouring outside. You can buy another, separate, unit to hear inside and some work with Alexa.

I tend to keep my phone with me as my office phone is linked to it so I either get a loud noise or a buzz on my watch. I can't hear the bell itself from indoors as we don't have the chime but that's not a major problem.

We've installed the app on the DCs' phones so they can see who is at the door before opening it when we are still at work gor example.
