Have i damaged my stomach?

I usually have to take 2 ibruprofen twice a day for a week when I'm on.

Occasionally Ill take a dose after a big walk as my neck muscles give me trouble when they flare up.

I also take paracetamol 2-3 times a month for headaches (I get one or two headaches around hormones)

Yesterday I took two doses of paractemol and two doses of ibruprofen. At night time I took an anti nausea tablet and went to sleep. I had a really bad headache going over one side of my head from my neck and my stomach was churning.

I feel better today just weak. But when I breathe in deeply I get a twinge of pain in my stomach. It's under the ribs on the left. Only for a second.

Anyone got any ideas? I've basically been taking pain relief for the last 9 days period followed by bad head.

Ibuprofen is very bad for the stomach lining. It can cause ulcers if taken for a long time.

Stop taking it and stick to paracetamol or aspirin. If the pain continues see a doctor.

Have you tried buscopan during your period? I find it really effective

It's unlikely. For soft tissue/sports injuries ibuprofen is often taken long term.

However it should be taken when you have an upset stomach (neither should aspirin) Both of these drugs can irritate the stomach lining.

I'd stick to the anti nausea meds until your stomach settles.

That sounds like a lot of medication taken regularly. We can't possibly know, you should try to see your doctor.

Do you try other remedies before reaching for the medicine?
Massage/heat/ice(?) for the neck muscles, light exercise and diet for period cramps.
Do you drink enough water? Dehydration can cause headaches. Or do you k ow what causes them? Asked a doctor?

Op I get neck issues.
Sounds like migraine to me?

Pythonesque · 17/08/2020 10:37

It doesn't sound like a lot to me, you can take more than two doses a day safely. Some are more sensitive than others to gastric side effects. Ibuprofen is a sensible first line for period pain as the way it works targets the mechanism that generates the pain.
If your stomach doesn't settle completely and soon, talk to your GP.

Hiya. Yes my doctor is aware of my heavy periods. They prescribed me transexamic acid but that's not as effective. I get anemic basically and I was really unwell with it six months ago. I read that Ibruprofen reduces the flow, which is does seem to help me most months. Perhaps I need to not do that anymore?

I suppose it won't harm to ask the GP if my doses are safe? They have been trying to help and I'm due to be referred but coronavirus is stopping the services running as normal.

I've also had what I presume is acid/heartburn Saturday. My stomach and throat felt warm and fizzy?

I think my headaches are neck headaches. It's always from tension in my neck and shoulders. That started after my son was born. I suppose I need to pay to have it looked at one day but currently can't afford it.

That isn't a huge amount of medication. Just make sure you are taking the ibuprofen with or after food.

awesomeaircraft · 17/08/2020 11:08

Ibuprofen and its generics are indeed bad for the stomach lining but what is done is done. And worrying is bad for ulcers too they say.

You can get gels to repair stomach lining if you are worried, or have some yogurt (the NHS site will have recommendations on best / nono foods and drinks to help).

Very sorry you have to use pain killers so often. Maybe worth seeing if there are better alternatives, although I expect you have already.

Yes I've tried allsorts. Diet. Excercise. Water. Accupressure mat. But unfortunately I don't have much choice as I need to function for my kids. I will try to take less. Perhaps I need some probiotics.

It's still there. I presume it's my stomach and not my pancreas.
