Removing yellow stains out of shower or don’t buy?

So we’ve been for a second viewing of a house today - this time using our heads and not just our hearts.

The en-suite shower has yellow stains on the basin. Now I don’t want to assume it’s pee stains, but it’s quite clearly pee stains Sad

We wouldn’t be able to change the shower for about 6 months and the idea of showering whilst standing in someone else’s pee has really put me off the house (which is otherwise perfect for us).

So is there any foolproof ways to remove the stains? Or should I just cut my losses and accept I would never feel clean until a new shower was installed!

TIA

If it's pee stains then bleach or vinegar or something should shift it.
Are you sure it's not something to do with the water (iron, hardness?) or an old plumbing system. Our taps at school would often run with yellowIsh water.

LoudBatPerson · 16/08/2020 20:09

Cover the area in cloths/kitchen roll or sheet cotton wool, soak the material in bleach. Leave for a couple of hours and they should shift.

If the house is the perfect match I wouldn't let this put you off. They can be removed.

My shower curtain has funny coloured stains from the copper in the local water.

Or don't use the en suite? I genuinely don't get it, is this a stealth boast (not sure how but so weird) the house is perfect apart from en suite whick you can change in 6 months?

Awkwarddough · 16/08/2020 20:13

Bleach will shift it. However we get yellow looking stains around the edges of our plug hole and the bath and it’s limescale. We put Kilrock on for a few minutes and it comes off fine :)

wowfudge · 16/08/2020 20:14

If it's plastic it could have been discoloured by bleach - far more likely in a bathroom. One of the reasons you shouldn't use bleach to clean uPVC windows. Also lots of plastics yellow with age and it could be yellow where sunlight through the window hits it.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 16/08/2020 20:14

Surely pee would wash away if they're peeing while they shower? I think it could be water stains like pp said, or could be bad limescale. A good hard scrub with a scourer and bleach should shift it.

CompleteBarstool · 16/08/2020 20:14

When you say "yellow stains on the basin" do you mean the shower tray or the basin, as in sink?

Either way, if you like the house it's hardly a deal breaker surely?

CoffeeRunner · 16/08/2020 20:15

It won be pee! Pee is incredibly easy to clean!

Our bath has a yellow stain beneath the tap which, in fact, has come from a rusty section at the bottom of the shower pipe. It’s an absolute bugger to remove - but it’s not a dirty “unclean” stain. Thankfully we’ll be having a new bathroom before long (hopefully). If you mean shower tray (slightly confused by shower basin) then it could also be hair dye stains.

CoffeeRunner · 16/08/2020 20:16

Won’t!

Tuemay · 16/08/2020 20:16

Magic sponge!

Trashtara · 16/08/2020 20:19

I doubt it's pee stains. I wee in the shower every time I use it (at least daily) as I have a bladder condition and it is not yellow at all.

If it's the only issue with the house you'd be mad not to buy it.

ClearlyNotMrsHinch · 16/08/2020 20:20

It’s light yellow, not dark yellow so I assumed pee not water wear. Plus we live approx 5 mins from the house and we don’t have the same stains at home - can that be possible?

@Morfin no!! The main bathroom hasn’t got a shower in it and I don’t really do baths - showers are much more me. It’s really not a stealth boast at all, it’s a normal house on a new-ish estate (Where they throw en-suites in them all!)

Thanks for the tips, I think I’m making it a bigger deal than it is because I’m generally nervous about moving. So looking for anything. DH does call me a drama queen Confused

Sorry @CompleteBarstool I meant shower tray. I couldn’t think of the word!

These are some great tips. And quite reassuring to know, it’s most probably not pee.

It won’t be pee. I’ve had window frames go yellowish like that. Pee would wash away straight away.

WaltzingBetty · 16/08/2020 20:28

Urine that is immediately rinsed away by a running shower isn't going to stain Confused
It'll be minerals in the water

Mojitomogul · 16/08/2020 20:39

I very much doubt its pee. If anything pee would wash off very quickly, it's much more likely to be mineral stains. I literally would not be bothered by this at all

PoodleMoth · 16/08/2020 20:53

HG cleaning products are amazing for getting rid of stains!

delilahbucket · 16/08/2020 20:56

It isn't wee. The bottom of our shower goes yellow from soap build up and round the plug holes goes pink from the water. It all wipes away with bathroom cleaner.
