Entertaining 9 year old boys

Ds is desperate for his friend to come over to play. I'm always a bit reluctant about play dates at our house because we have no garden and compared to some of his friends, not much in the way of flash toys. He has a PlayStation, Lego all the usual bits but I suppose I get a bit worried about keeping them entertained so they don't go home telling their parents how boring our house is! Can I have your tips on entertaining lads this age for a play date?

You could get them to make their own pizza for dinner, if you are feeding the guest. That would take up some time & be fun & different. Otherwise I have found that boys of around that age are happy to play on a Playstation/Xbox together.

Another vote for food. Make a Rocky Mountain and get them to choose the ingredients.

My ds would love to do kitchen science with his friends- cornflour slime, baking soda explosions etc.

Do you have some tools and wood? Building things is always fun. My 10yo cut out a sword and shield with his friend and painted them. Then they fought!!

It's PlayStation and snacks for my DS and his friend.
They may go into ds's bedroom and play with his Stretch Armstrong toys and little tubs or slime and putty for a while but really it's the PS that keeps them entertained. DS is 10.
DD (9) and her friends spend hours making slime with activator and shaving foam. Cheap and effective but fun and something her boy friends enjoy too.
