Awkward situation

Need some advice re my older brother. So at a bbq recently he started talking to one of my very good friends (friends since primary!) now in early 40s. They exchanged numbers and have been texting. He really likes her a lot but she told one of our other friends (who then told me) that she’s not feeling it but she likes the attention.

What do I do? I know the obvious answer- tell him and bin her off! However he is a grown adult and I did tell him at the start she’s not for him but he seems smitten. Would he listen? And I really don’t want to ruin my friendship but I don’t like that she’s doing this, at all.

A lot depends on your relationship with him. Would he appreciates the heads up and respect the friendship you have by quietly dialling her down and gagging away and not making it into a drama?
If yes, then tell him. If he or she would end up blaming you then you'll have to let him find out for himself.

Im assuming your brother is a grown adult?

ChickensMightFly · 15/08/2020 22:53

Gagging!! Oh dear! No, fading not gagging. 🤭

@ChickensMightFly that made me laugh! The drama part is what I’m worried about. I don’t want to be in the middle of it, or the friend who told me in confidence.

@TheoriginalLEM yes as mentioned in the OP!

But sometimes "not feeling it" turns into something completely different. I wouldn't get involved.

MoggyMittens23 · 15/08/2020 23:03

@LittleHootie very true, and I think you’re right I think I’ll stay out of it. Hopefully it will run it’s course!

of course you tell him, he is your brother, just be loyal and then he can do what he wants.

ChickensMightFly · 15/08/2020 23:31

Gagging could be very useful in these situations 🤔Grin
Maybe just observe from the sidelines for a bit longer. If you see he is getting seriously led up the garden path and her intentions are not genuine, re-think staying quiet.
She doesn't sound like a nice person if she is leading him on though, but if they are both just flirting and she doesn't know his feelings are more serious then it'll probably run it's course naturally.
You know your brother and what his likely response to the news is though, that would decide it for me.

@ChickensMightFly thank you.

Luckily she told him herself. Apparently he told her he wanted to take her on a proper date and she declined saying she saw him as more of a friend, and it would be awkward with me and her being such close friends anyway. Phew!!! I really did not want to be in the middle of that. Bit annoying that she was doing that in the first place but I am glad he isn't going to get badly hurt.

Oh I like a good ending. All's well that ends well then, and no drama. Phew. Smile

Nice to see an amicable adult resolution to a threadSmile
