Do you keep a note book & pen by your bed?

I'm idly wondering if this is a good idea -

As I was dropping off to sleep on Thursday night, I had a GENIUS idea for a main present for dd2 for Christmas. I sort of vaguely thought about unlocking my phone & sticking a note in here but couldn't be arsed, and now I haven't got a clue what it was Confused

So, I wondered if any of you keep a notebook at the side of your bed for these sudden flashes if inspiration - or whatever else you may need to note down in the middle of the night?

I'm a writer so used to but now just use my phone. Half the time I couldn't read what I'd written.

Fosler · 15/08/2020 21:30

Yes. For a different reason.

Does prove useful on occasion.

Dollywilde · 15/08/2020 21:31

I usually have one to hand. Big list writer and I like being able to annotate things, so if I can use a notepad rather than my phone I will do. It’s a running joke amongst friends that I can always put my hands to a pen within 15 seconds!

sitckmansladylove · 15/08/2020 21:35

I don't but I also get the best ideas just as I am about to nod off Grin

mosscarpet · 15/08/2020 21:35

oh yes. this is sooo helpful. I am a recent convert to bullet journalling. I have now got a fab notebook which has EVERYTHING in it. daily to do lists, passwords, appointments, christmas planning pages, camping packing lists , gardeneing lists , back to school lists, etc..etc.. At night it lives by bed. Often I wake at 2 or 3am with the realization of something essential I need to remeber and it goes stright in the bullet journal (I have a little reading torch too so I can do this!) It has helped my anxiety so much, and my sleep!

Yes, but more to get worries out of my head.

lucysmam · 15/08/2020 21:40

@sitckmansladylove it's so frustrating, isn't it!? I've been wracking my brains trying to think what it could have been but have no idea!

@mosscarpet I have many lists and have considered bullet journalling before but couldn't seem to get going with it I just have five books instead

lucysmam you could put a lost on here asking for the best present ideas for a 5 year old (or whatever age) ? Maybe it might throw up some ideas and trigger your memory.

lucysmam · 15/08/2020 22:05

@sitckmansladylove I may just do that, but in Christmas so I don't get shouted at Grin

I think that’s a good idea.

However I started writing ideas in to the notes of my phone. One drunken night I wrote some ideas of the comedy series I was definitely going to write.

When I read it back it was funny alright 🤣

nicky2512 · 15/08/2020 22:12

Yes I do. It’s not tidy - just a little notebook and a pen and I scrawl good ideas and things that I suddenly remember through the night. Also good for things I need to add to the Tesco delivery.
These are the sort of things I think about as I lie awake! It beats worrying about stuff I can’t do anything about.

I take my bullet journal and pen up to bed and write it up before I go to sleep but virtually never use it after I've put the light out. If DH is there it would wake him up and even if he's not I CBA to sit up, put the light on, put my glasses on and start writing, I'd never get back to sleep (I usually fall asleep within minutes of lights out).

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 15/08/2020 22:31

I use Alexa instead as quicker and easier, especially at night.

tatyr · 15/08/2020 22:37

Sadly yes, a couple of years ago my husband started having night seizures, so I need to write down the details of how long, what happened etc, sometimes he's had 3 in a night and there's no way I would remember the details. It's the only info the doctors have to go on as my husband remembers nothing.

DDemelza · 16/08/2020 14:48

Yes. I like noting down the twattish things DH did in my dreams so that I can reprimand him later.

@DDemelza that did make me laugh Grin

Maybe it's not such a daft idea after all then! I'll have a look through my stash and see if I can find myself a nice one and pen (I have lots of nice pens!) to pop up there.

Yes I do
I'm a chronic insomniac and I'm at my most productive at 3am I write any inspiration down as I've usually forgotten it, by the " morning"
