Does anyone know what these bites are?

My Dd got bitten several times on her shoulder / on her arm last weekend when we were camping.

Assumed they were mosquito bites, but now a week later they have kind of bubbled and gone raised. Definitely not infected, though still itchy. I've never seen mozzie bites go like that before?!

Any chance they could be tic bites? Looking a bit like a bullseye rash?

ragged · 15/08/2020 19:17

my guess is allergic reaction to could be anything
antihistamine may help, especially if itching

WinWinnieTheWay · 15/08/2020 19:17

They do look like Tic bites.

Hi OP, I agree with a PP that they could be tick bites. It normally takes quite a bit for me to do anything other than ignore things but I'd definitely get these looked at.

Elouera · 15/08/2020 19:21

I too think it looks like a tick bite! Agree with the antihistamine to reduce the itch. Where in the country did you camp? Some areas are more infected with ticks and lymes disease than others. Might just be a tick/insect bite that will heal in a few days, but I'd consult your GP.

Thanks all. I did wonder about tics but she has 6! Surely we'd notice 6 tick bites?!

We camped in Oxfordshire

I guess folk are individual. DS & I have both had tick bites very recently (we pulled the ticks off). Our bites turned into tiny pinpricks, not big bubbles. DH & DC have had tick bites in past -- I've not seen lumpy bubbles.

I have allergic response to almost every insect bite or pinch except I guess not ticks, this thread is making me realise. Earwigs or woodlice and lots of tiny unidentified things might give me bubbles.

Mrsemcgregor · 15/08/2020 19:32

Do ticks drop off when they’ve had their fill? Maybe it happened in her sleep?

I’d get them checked at a minor injuries if your gp isn’t offering appointments. I don’t think there’s much risk of Lyme disease in England, but it can happen.

ragged · 15/08/2020 19:33

... ticks get very huge on my cats. I think they take a while to get their fill.

LazyFace · 15/08/2020 19:34

I'd get those checked out.

LentilBolognese · 15/08/2020 19:44

Thanks all. Unless they've miraculously gone down tomorrow I'll get them checked out. Might try a pharmacy first as they're quite good at things like that aren't they?

OP posts:
ValkyrieCain · 15/08/2020 19:48

Could also be ringworm. Pharmacist a good first call.

mineofuselessinformation · 15/08/2020 19:52

I think they're plain mozzie bites.
I've got a nasty bite on the back of my leg which looks similar, and there's no way it was a tic.
Ask a pharmacist about a suitable antihistamine and get some itch relief cream to stop any scratching, which will be irritating them.

A closer up pic

Does anyone know what these bites are?

lljkk · 17/08/2020 12:04

Any better, Lentil? If they itched she may have scratched them up into being so bumpy.

LentilBolognese · 17/08/2020 22:36

@ValkyrieCain is the winner!

Ringworm. Who'd have thought it.

Have some cream to sort it out.

Thanks all for your concerns and suggestions Grin

This is what they looked like today

Rlw2020 · 17/08/2020 22:41

My son had the same and it was ringworm. The cream/tablets will help

lljkk · 18/08/2020 02:38

thanks for update! Nice that it's something simple. I'm reading it can be in soil. Common.

ValkyrieCain · 18/08/2020 05:55

I love a prize Smile. Glad it’s simple and will be sorted. Ringworm was v common in our house following trips to Center Parcs when kids spent hours building dens in the woods.
