Sleepovers??

DD will be 8 in a few weeks. She is desperate to have a sleepover. I was never allowed sleepovers when I was small so I've no idea what to do!

How can I make it fun for them? What do people do for sleepovers??

She wants a disney descendants theme if that helps!

I used to make a nice dinner, get a few snacks and drinks in for afterwards and then let them get on with it.

I'd always offer/arrange if they want to ring or text their parents to say goodnight, as some did and some didn't.

But beyond that, it was just an extended playdate.

Thank you!

I just really want her to have a good time 😊

Kind of thinking, the girls get dropped off about 4pm, McDonald's for dinner (special request from birthday girl), possible crafty activity and just general play. Film on about 8.30/9pm with snacks and then lights out? about 11pm?

Nice breakfast in morning and then they will get picked up about 11am.

Hoping that sounds OK?

Surely this would be a massive breach of Covid guidance?

Orangedaisy · 21/08/2020 17:54

I am usually full on Covid police and yes this is against guidance. But if they are all in the same bubble at school and as this is presumably after school starts I’d relax about it. I wouldn’t mix friends from other schools or brownies or family members though, and I’d keep my distance from the kids myself.

Stompythedinosaur · 21/08/2020 17:54

You can't have more that two families together indoors and they must remain socially distanced at all times. I cant see any way to have a sleepover and stick to that.

Orangedaisy · 21/08/2020 17:55

I’d do pick up time much earlier. They’ll be up at 6am if you’re lucky and then you have 5 hrs of ratty kids to entertain!

Hedgehog26 · 21/08/2020 17:56

Sound brilliant but I’d do pick up about half 9/10

You can get children's face masks, let them paint each others toe nails, have a movie, loads of covers and pillows down stairs to watch the movie. Sweets, birthday cake and a take away.

Coronavirus aside we would probably have craft activities, biscuit decorating, don't bank on the film occupying them. Discovered that some 8yr olds don't have a long attention span, others will have seen it and feel obliged to tell everyone what happens, others will be scared by the slightest hint of danger whereas others will go into great detail of the 15 they watched yesterday. It might be fine, but have contingency plans (drawing, board gameetc.) in a different room just in case. You might want to set 10am as pick up time, they might be up at 6, so 4hrs of overtired 8yr olds is more than enough.
