Anyone gone private for a diagnosis?

I’m considering going private for a diagnosis of tourettes. As I’m not sure I can last long enough to make the nhs waiting times.

I’m also gonna phone the gp on Monday and explain see if it can go any quicker.

I’m just how much people paid for an initial consultation and whether it was worth it and any experiences, particularly in the neurology area.

Thanks,

Depends on where you are. For most doctors I know initial Consultations are around 250 to 300 with followups at around 150 to 200. But that's London

Yes for my daughter. She missed a month of school and she went to the GP three times and A&E once her pain was so bad. Her referral to paediatric dept at hospital was scheduled for four months away. So I took her for a private mri and consultation, her scan was same day and results a few days later (£650 for scan and consultation). We did have to travel quite a ways. Her mri was clear, so even though we didn't get a diagnosis, I was reassured she didn't have a tumour or other abnormality. We kept her NHS appointment and she is still under their care - covid delayed things even more.
NHS is great for routine things, but anything that requires a referral can take forever.

@Bells3032

I’m in Scotland so the nearest one is Edinburgh.

Yes my daughter had a suspected chronic problem and the specialist in London had a year long waiting list just for referral so we were advised to pay for a one off fee of 250 for consultation - he then made the diagnosis based on tests which didn't cost any extra then moved her to his nhs waiting list . By the time she saw him again he had all the info needed to make the diagnosis.
I would ask around and find a recommendation for a private consultant and see if you can do something similar.
