Would you report your local pub if they weren't following covid guidelines?

Hi,

Just that really.

Ours seemed to be taking all necessary precautions when first reopening, but now it doesn't really do anything.

Staff aren't wearing masks or visors, tables aren't regularly cleaned and there's no SD at all really. The one way system has been abandoned completely, even by the staff - including the manager. In fact, I've seen the manager all over some of his customers, just like before covid.

Basically, it is business as usual, with a few bits of safety tape scattered around and a couple of broken hand sanitisers on the walls. No encouragement to use them or to SD.

How is yours doing? Would you report if it was like ours?..

No, I would not report them. This virus is here to stay, we have to get back to normal. Anyone who is nervous about that can choose to stay at home as there will never be zero risk in life.

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 16/08/2020 17:53

I wouldn't report them, but I wouldn't go in there, either.

MaudesMum · 16/08/2020 18:17

You don't say whether their tables are a sensible distance apart, whether they are still keeping to rules for buying drinks (e.g. no crowds of people standing around the bar) and whether they turn people away when their tables are full. Those strike me as being more important than regularly cleaning tables and one way systems which don't actually do anything very much. If they're not doing any of that then I'd definitely avoid, and might consider contacting licensing. I'm all for individual responsibility, but I'd also hate to be in the middle of a local lockdown caused by a pub-related outbreak.

Pubs are probably more concerned with paying the bills at the moment. This is the thing with businesses. Yeah they need to at least do the basics with hygiene but if they're more concerned with keeping a roof over their head .
Purpleartichoke · 16/08/2020 20:08

I would report. It is a public health hazard.

I would also never go there again, even after this is over. If they can’t follow Covid guidelines, I would hate to think of their hygiene compliance in general.

Outbreak here, A level students 'celebrating' in an indi pub and Wetherspoons.
A cafe ( where some of the teenagers worked) and indi pub closed...Wetherspoons continuing to trade.

Justanswer · 16/08/2020 20:17

@annabel85

It’s in the pubs own interests to comply.. if they don’t and then there’s an outbreak linked to it they’ll have even more problems than paying their bills such as possible loss of licence if due to poor practices

Nat6999 · 16/08/2020 20:50

If you aren't happy then don't use the pub. Nobody forces you to use that pub. Pubs have had a hard enough time without being reported, breweries have still expected the rent even though they have been closed. The leave your details bit is a joke because you don't have to provide proof of ID & could put anyone's name down.

hippohector · 17/08/2020 07:59

I honestly despair at some of these comments. People have very short memories. This virus has not gone away and the threat to all of us is still very real, yet people have become complacent like it was all a fuss about nothing.

Tens of thousands of people have died. Countless families have been torn apart. Our NHS workers have had to deal with the most awful situations and work to the point of exhaustion in full PPE, shift after shift. We were all in lockdown. Our children have missed half a year of their education. Billions wiped off the economy and families struggling financially.

We need to get the country moving and return to some normality BUT in a safe way.

So there is guidance out there to try to reduce the risk of a second peak.

Pubs should follow the guidance to the letter if they want to remain open. It is that simple. If they wilfully do not comply then they deserve to be reported.
This ‘turn a blind eye’ attitude is truly astounding.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 17/08/2020 08:20

No, i just would not go

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 17/08/2020 08:21

but it is hypothetical as my local i dont go to and my preferred pub i only go once in a blue moon.

Justanswer · 17/08/2020 08:53

@ hippohector Totally agree! I also don’t get this thing with leaving false info with the pub. Why wouldn’t you want to know that you could have been exposed to the virus? Why would you not want to protect friends and family from it?

annabel85 · 17/08/2020 09:13

There's the pubs who'll just act like everything is back to normal because that's what a lot of people are doing anyway.

But what's probably more common is landlords and staff who make an effort, but haven't got the will to try and make drunk people socially distance.

HaveAtEm · 17/08/2020 09:17

I'm shocked and saddened that so many of you would simply ignore these things actually!

It's these 'local breaches' that are the cause of all the 'local spikes' leading to the ever increasing 'local lockdowns' ffs!

You will all be the first to be bleating when, come October, we have no fucking choice but to close the schools again because instead of 'local spikes' the whole sodding country is back in full lockdown!!

See a breach like this...report it! Every fucking time!!

bodgeitandscarper · 17/08/2020 09:35

There are four pubs in a County Durham town that have had outbreaks, they can't trace everyone who has been in them and those people will now be in the community spreading it to people they are in contact with, maybe somebody's vulnerable loved one.
Of course places that aren't following the rules should be reported.
