Chicken pox vaccine at the moment

I’m going back and forth about getting my child the chicken pox vaccine. I wanted to get it done before they start childcare in September but I’m not sure whether taking them into a reasonably busy clinic (would be either the local boots or Superdrug) is hugely sensible at the moment with the whole Covid thing? Has anyone had it done recently? Would you wait?

If you’re going to do it at all might as well be now. I expect you’ll have to book so be in and out in seconds, and the pharmacist or whoever will be in ppe and you’ll wear a mask, wash hands before and after etc. Can’t see that being much of a risk in Covid terms.

My DD had her preschool boosters at the gp and it was as I described. No sticker given out and only one person allowed to accompany but otherwise as normal.

Mine had her's, it was at a high street shop and we booked in advance, wasn't that busy and only really saw the pharmacist and one person in the queue

It was administered as normal save for pharmacist (and me) wearing mask, and she still got a plaster and sticker (although she was encouraged to take them herself rather than it being handed to her)

I'm glad we did. Private GP clinics will also be offering it but for a lot more

It was horrid for her although very quick, my only worry is how to get her back into shop for booster soon as she will remember 😢

Private GPs in private hospitals will do it. Their social distancing policies are brilliant. I've been in for countless appointments and a surgical procedure during lockdown and have never felt like I'm being exposed to the virus.

Without wishing to derail, what a ridiculous comment!! As if you can feel you’re getting the virus..... that must be the silver bullet all the scientists are missing in their fight against the global pandemic

@Orangedaisy surely PP is actually saying she didn't feel like there was any significant risk of exposure ie she didn't feel unsafe

Of course you are right that you can't possibly know for sure, but if you are in regularly cleaned environment with little footfall, PPE and no close contact of course you will rightly feel like the risk of exposure is minimal

As opposed to a bustling place full of people with no social distancing for example. Of course you could catch a virus in either scenario but clearly one will feel safer than the other for quite rational reasons

Don't be so silly!

I've been in both a private GP and an NHS GP during lockdown and I was much more confident in procedures in the private hospital and felt much safer

We're holding off getting DD her chickenpox booster because we don't want to isolate or test her for covid if she gets a fever.
