Go back to them or the gp? Ds1 has just had blood tests requested by his psychiatrist. He’s had them done at the gp surgery but they take ages to offer an appointment if anything comes back abnormal.

If the GP does them they go back to the GP but I would expect the consultant to look them up on line to action any results as he/she wanted them done. GP us just facilitating the test. To be honest I wish our lab ordering software would allow us to direct the bloods straight back to the requesting consultant. Would save us some work.

I work for a GP surgery - regardless of where the blood test is done, results should go back to whoever requested them,

They'll go back to the psychiatrist. They'll be able to look them up on the online system but depending on what they were for, that might be in a few days, or might be longer. In our area paper copies are also still sent out, so if they're just routine bloods the consultant might not look them up and may just wait for them to be sent.

Results are the responsibility of the requesting clinician. That said, common sense is usually applied. If a psychiatrist found out that a patient had hitherto-undiagnosed type 2 diabetes, for example, the psychiatrist would normally speak to the GP and ask them to take over, as psychiatrists don't manage diabetes.
