Gender Reveal

Hi all, I've been invited to a gender reveal party and I'm really excited having never been to one before. My question is this: is it usual to take a gift and if so, should this be for the expectant parents or for the anticipated little one? I am happy to bring a gift but just wondered on the correct protocol. TIA

There was a plane flying overhead a couple of weeks announcing twins. A boy and a girl. Top that.

I’ve watched quite a few gender reveal videos online and it’s interesting that the men in the group almost always celebrate more when the baby is a boy and the women when it’s a girl. Almost like it’s a competition between the sexes as to who gets the new team member.

I’d be sad as a child to watch the video where a parent is obviously disappointed. The ones where the the couple are doing it in a tacky, attention seeking way, like spinning a motorbike tyre until clouds of pink/blue smoke cover everyone are awful.

@Hatscats

It’s so weird that parents think people care enough to have a party about the babies sex. Why does it even matter. The pink and blue thing is also so annoying. I’d make an excuse not to do go, or take plenty of booze to make it bearable. I wouldn’t take a present as they’ll be expecting one at a baby shower later on. Also not my thing but these things seem to go together!
I get what your saying. It seems a bit self Indulgent to have a gender reveal party, but just another excuse for a party I suppose!

I'd have the diplomatic excuse to miss the event, Covid 19 being the one I'd use now.

II might be my advanced age of 53 but this all seems like the most immature self- indulgent load of bollocks. Like enormous weddings the focus seems entirely in the wrong place.

Whatever happened to wait and see what you get"?
We weren't 'allowed' to know the sex 20 to 30 years ago when we had a scans ,and celebrated when the baby arrived. I think it's sad that the mystery has gone.

I suspect I will be slated for being old-fashioned... but If ( god forbid I'm 55!) I was pregnant now I'd want to wait and find out !🙂

I'm only 5 years younger than you, we were 'allowed' to find out 20 years ago Hmm. I see no problem with that, why not if you can and want to? But having a whole party over it? Cringe.

Some hospitals let you @InDeoEstMeaFiducia and some didn't due to female sex abortion rates :( the scans were also less reliable back then.

I was desperate to know but hated the stereotyping that came with each sec so I waited. Best decision we made.

ElizabethWoodviIIe · 15/08/2020 13:46

Oh goody, cracking on with gender stereotypes even before the baby is born. Pink confetti/smoke/balloons for a girl and blue for a boy, yes?

And yes, it's a sex reveal party not a gender reveal party. Gender is a pile of doodoo.

Our hospital was one that didn't tell. But a private scan to find out was about 40 quid.

Many thanks to those who replied to my original question. I thought this was a fairly innocent post. Nice to see that we are all supportive of each other and not quick to judge. Don't think I'll post again.

That baby is going to be snowed under with gifts if everyone takes one to the sex reveal party, the baby shower AND after baby is born.

If you think the parents might be serving alcohol at this party then you could always take a bottle of prosecco or something. No need for any other gifts.

The amount of sneery wankers on this site has really gone up.
They seem to think you're not allowed to enjoy anything that they wouldn't and piss all over it if you mention it.
Supposed to be a lot of feminists on here but there's so much bitchiness to women there can't be

So I went to the Gender Reveal and a good time was had by all. I took a couple of small gifts but the other guests (who knew the host better than me) didn't. The gifts were really appreciated as was the company of all. It really was a joyous occasion and a good opportunity for a catch-up and a natter. So poo to all the nay-sayers and thanks to all those with good vibes

My cousin in the US did a gender reveal, but it was just a video of her bursting a balloon full of blue glitter, no party or gifts.
