Am I being a hypochondriac ?

I am prone to being a hypochondriac so am just sense checking myself.
I had really sudden abdominal pain come on at around 9.30pm. On the right hand side, level with belly button. It was around a 5 out of 10 when I stayed completely still but moving, pressing the area or walking shot it to a 9 out of 10.
I called 111 who organised for our out of hours service to call me back. No other symptoms, no temperature or anything and they said just keep taking paracetamol and stay at home.
I did sleep for around an hour but am now awake and it's really sore still. I can lay on my back or on my left side but not on right side as it makes pain much worse.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I've had my gallbladder removed a few years ago so not gallstones. I have had a poo since it started (not a poo troll, my mum just always made us try as kids with tummy ache!) and all normal so no constipation or anything. I'm just worrying about appendicitis but as I'm prone to worry I want to get some advice without waking my husband who will roll his eyes. Although in my defence he rolled his eyes last time I had bad tummy pain and 48 hours later then took my gallbladder out!

Get your dh to press on the place and release it. Grade the pain for when pressed, more when released, and 5 minutes later.
When you have your answer Google it and see whether any have signs of appendicitis.
If you're a hypochondriac then if I tell you you'll feel it.

But any doubt, get down to A&E. Ds had his out a couple of months ago and it was quite quick and easy.

Thanks so much @Witchend
I survived the night Grin
Pain is still here but I have an appt with GP shortly. I had a phone consultation and she's asked me to go in to be examined so hopefully all sorted soon

Glad you survived. Grin

Hope the GP has answers. If it is appendicitis then don't worry, it's one of the easiest major ops they do, and ds is very proud of his scar.

It was appendicitis @Witchend ! I had it whipped out at about 8pm and am on a ward now dozing on and off.
I'm not going to call myself a hypochondriac anymore - just a sickly one! My mum and DH calll me one but I'm always actually ill Hmm

Wow. And this is why MN is amazing! Glad you are doing well @TeethingBabyHelp and also well done @Witchend 🌹

Glad you got it done.
Go carefully, and don't try rushing your recovery to try and prove you're not a hypochondriac!
Hope you get better quickly.
When they want to get you out of bed, ds found the easiest way was to gradually raise the bed head until he was sitting up, and then all he had to do was swing his legs round.

@Witchend can I bug you again please?
It's 2 weeks tomorrow since my procedure and for the first 7 days I was feeling great. Walking, barely taking painkillers, a bit tired but nothing terrible.
But for the last 5 days or so I'm absolutely wiped and today I'm getting really bad pain, have had to take painkillers again. It's like where the appendix used to be if that makes sense, the incision sites and stitches are no bother at all. Do you think that sounds normal from when your DS has his done? I don't know whether I should ring GP tomorrow or whether it's just part of everything healing. If this was the pain initially I'd expect it but I think it's thrown me l that I felt good and seem to be getting worse as time goes on!

@TeethingBabyHelp
I would get that checked out, even if you feel okay tomorrow.
Ds didn't have pain like that after 2 weeks , he's younger so recovery tends to be easier.
If it gets worse then phone 111 to ask or the surgical team at the hospital-number might be in discharge notes.

Chances are you have just overdone yourself after initially feeling better, but worth checking. It is major abdominal surgery, so better safe than sorry, and the hospital would say that too.

TeethingBabyHelp · 27/08/2020 21:51

Thanks so much @Witchend
I'll get it checked tomorrow for sure. I think you might be right in saying I could've overdone it.
I have a 2 year old and as much as I've tried to resist picking him up, I have done a couple of times and he's a fair lump ( a gorgeous lump of course!)

Thanks so much for being my sense check person!!

How are you today?

TeethingBabyHelp · 29/08/2020 20:24

A little better thanks @Witchend
I spoke to GP yesterday and he said it sounds like normal healing pains but to keep eye out for a fever or more persistent pain and call back if that happens
It seems to be worse first thing (maybe Cos I'm stiff from laying down all night) and in evenings (tired)? But it's not unmanageable so will just suck it up and keep taking painkillers and see how it goes
Thanks for checking Thanks
