What's in your nappy bag?

So back in the day, everyone talked about what's in their hand bags. But I want to know what's in your nappy bag, and what age(s) do you have?

I have just cleared mine out, and took out a lot of crap from when my nearly 2.5 year old was a baby, and teething. So I'll go first.

I have a backpack. I have one of those fold out changing mat/bags inside with nappies, wipes, change of clothes, sun cream, hand gel, nappy bags, hair bobbles and clips. A mini first aid kit with plasters, gauze, antiseptic wipes, savlon, Calpol and haribo, reusable folded shopping bag, tissues, snacks, kids cutlery, colouring book, stickers, pencil case with pens & crayons, my purse, travel passes, reusable straw, hair bobble, face mask, hand gel!

Love reading stuff like this.

Wow you're organised! It's been a few years since I carried one but I packed:
Nappies, bags, wipes
Spare bottles, milk
Change of clothes
Breast pads
Hand gel, phone,keys
Change mat was included. Oh and unusually clipped a toy in somewhere too

Nappies, bags, wipes, changing mat.
2 changes of clothes, 2 muslin cloths, sun hat, cardigan/jumper.
Sippy cup, calpol, sun cream, teething granules, probably an old dummy, bottle of water for me.
Fruit like an orange or raisins, a chocolate bar (for me), hand gel, antibac wipes, mask.
Phone, wallet, keys.

I feel horribly disorganised looking at that. Ds is 1 I have a changing bag pocket which literally has nappies, foldaway mat, wipes and sudocream. I move that from bag to bag, what ever bag I'm carrying (usually oversized totes of various colours) I have a change of clothes for him a bib, toys, snacks and a bottle of squash.
Everything else is usual handbag stuff, umbrella, purse, hand cream, nowadays antibac bottle and keys.

jomaIone · 13/08/2020 21:02

Can't wait for the days of carrying a handbag again, rucksack much easier still for me since my daughter doesn't go in the buggy very often!

I usually add my phone, water for us both, and fresh snacks before we leave but very handy having everything ready to go. Usually restock nappies and non perishable snacks when we get home. A habit I got into from her being newborn! Genuinely don't know where I'd put newborn things now alongside hers haha

I am due DC2 in November. What you have just said OP has just reminded me I am going to have to fit both DDs and DC2's stuff in one bag ....... oh god ......

I've got a 3 year old and a 7 month old. Clothes, hats, bibs, snacks for both. Nappies, dummy, muslin, wipes, wet bag (reusable nappies), nipple shields, changing mat for baby. Crayons, paper, small books, baby toy. Calpol, plasters, suncream tissues. Shopping bags, facemask, hand gel. Umbrella, purse, power bank.

applesauce1 · 13/08/2020 21:15

Barely anything compared to you organised people.

We have a little Sammy kids backpack for our 20mo.

x1 fabric nappy
x1 disposable nappy
x5 cheeky wipes
Spray bottle of water/emollient mix
Wet bag
Small pack of emergency wipes
Muslin (to use as a changing mat)
Baby antihistamines
Suncream
x2 crackers in small tuppawear

Used to have gummy sunnies in there but I lost them. Used to carry toys/books but when we're out and about, the out and aboutness is far more interesting than a toy or book.

Definitely inspired to put together a small first aid kit to add to my sparsely packed bag after this thread!

MrsHampshire2017 · 13/08/2020 21:21

8month old baby. I currently have one of the small free ones they give you at the hospital for short walks etc and a larger rucksack for longer.

Small change bag: 2 nappies, half a pack of wipes, 3 nappy bags, a vest, tiny sudocrem, face mask and a muslin.

Large bag: nappies, bum cream, a swim nappy and cover, wipes, nappy bags, muslins, outfit change, top for me, calpol, teething granules, Gripe water, hoodie, biscuit snacks, portable charger and cable, bib, food and spoon, nipple cream, breast pads, deodorant, hand gel, 2 masks, Lip balm, lip/cheek stain and mascara, loyalty cards, hairband, decaf tea bags, tissues, socks, a toy or two, antihistamine cream, paracetamol, ibuprofen gel, sunhat and suncream.

I’ll throw in my keys, phone and cards to whichever I carry. Having typed it out I now realise why the large is so heavy!

jomaIone · 13/08/2020 21:31

@applesauce1 the first aid kit was just something I made up today after a tumble at the park when I had nothing but tissues to mop up tears, blood and gravel 😖 Just put a few bits in an old small make up pouch so it doesn't take up any room.

When my daughter was little and needed more entertainment if sat at a cafe etc, I had a small cardboard box at the bottom of my bag with teeny figurines, ribbon, snuggley, little car and a flashing ball. Was great to be able to take it out, put it in front of her and if kept her busy for a wee while raking through it! A tip I learned from a baby group back in the day!

Nappies, wipes, wet bag and my purse. Drink, snack, muslin and change of clothes if I'm organised!

Trashtara · 13/08/2020 21:53

Current baby is 18months but the above is the case 0-4 (drink and snacks for me pre 6 months!)

Clevs · 13/08/2020 21:59

Changing mat
Reins
Nappies
Wipes
Nappy sacks
A miniature pit of Sudocrem
Sun cream
A muslin
One of those teething neckerchief (for when a I forget to pack a bib).
Spare vest.
Hoodie or raincoat if required.

Then I pack snacks and water bottle as & when we go out. I also put the contents of my handbag in a lot of the time so I don't have to carry two bags.

My son is 2 years 4 months.

DD is 13 months old, we have one of those “pod” pram bags where you get lots of different compartments:

Fold-up changing mat
6 nappies
Wet wipes
Nappy bags
Mini nappy cream

Baby bottle
Ready-made formula x2
Ella pouches x2
Bib
Muslin
Baby spoon x2
Snacks (rice cakes or dried fruit)
Sippy cup for water

Dummies x2 (for sleep only)
Plastic toy to chew for teething
Small soft toy to fiddle in case of a pram nap
Book or “baby car keys” toy to buy time
T-shirt and leggings
Long sleeved top
Cardigan
Socks
Hat
Baby ear defenders (super sensitive baby!)
Hand gel for me
Face masks x2 for me
Piece of paper with baby’s NHS number
Plastic bags for wet clothes/shopping
Baby sunglasses (hardly used)

We mostly take the pram out, and I also have a v large muslin and a rain cover in there plus umbrella, water and snacks for me.

I should probably add Calpol and suncream looking at this thread. Good suggestions.

I wish I hadn’t let DD see that some snacks are kept in the pram bag. She is constantly asking for them now she’s worked out where they are kept.
