Can I ask.... Do you Tip your Hairdresser?

Just wondering....I have a cut and colour booked Saturday at a fairly high end salon. It’ll cost around £200 pre tips.

Should I tip, or is that ‘beneath’ high end salons? If so, who and how much?

I always tip my hairdresser, because she works totally on her own, doing all the hair washing, dying, cutting....and I've been going to her little salon for years.

Pipandmum · 13/08/2020 20:54

Yes. My cut costs £55 and I round it up to £60. I gave the girl who washes it a couple pounds too.

HeronLanyon · 13/08/2020 20:54

Yes always, irrespective of the cost.

Almost never. I'm not into tipping people for doing their job.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/08/2020 21:05

@Youngatheart00 annoying at first but I did get used to it after a while. Wear a disposable one that you can throw away after as mine got covered in dye!

Youngatheart00 · 13/08/2020 21:07

I think I’ll take 2! Or maybe 4....considering the tube journeys. I’m just so not used to being out in the world after 5 months 😂

No. Not tipping people for doing their job.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 13/08/2020 21:12

I do.
Always.
I worked for tips as a waitress summers out of Uni and after living on tips I do tip.
The raised prices etc are not passed on to the individual stylists.
And at my hairdresser they are wearing masks and visors and customers all must wear masks.
there are dividers between chairs and a one way system.
Am happy to support

I had a cut and blonde highlights two weeks ago, it's normally £55 but was £65 this time, I gave her £75. I'm not sure why the price increased but I wondered if it was because instead of a trim it was a restyle after 6 months of neglect. I didn't wear a mask as the hairdresser was wearing a visor so she said it wasn't necessary.

GoingBackTo505 · 13/08/2020 21:14

Never. I can't understand why certain jobs are considered worthy of a tip and others aren't.

heartsonacake · 13/08/2020 21:21

Of course not. I’m paying them for a service, they’re providing that service.

A tip is unnecessary.

AskingforaBaskin · 13/08/2020 21:33

No. The idea is ridiculous to me.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/08/2020 21:54

@mumsiedarlingrevolta it depends if the stylists are employees or self employed. My hairdresser is self employed so charges what she wants, she earns more than I do in my office job.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 13/08/2020 21:59

@Waxonwaxoff0 absolutely agree- very different scenrios.
Think this is why this is such a complicated issue-so may variables.
I was referring to my personal experience at my hairdresser where the stylists are employees.
