Batshit Neighbours

Please people of mumsnet regale me with your tales of batshit neighbours.

I have just been approached by my neighbour, who happens to be moving in two weeks (thank fuck because they are noisy inconsiderate arseholes!) , because her extended family have come to stay to help her move and are being disturbed when sleeping by noise from my house. Shocked - because though we are very considerate with noise, we have two small children so I was well prepared to apologise and see what we could do - I asked what the noise was.

The rain last night was far too noisy on my conservatory roof.

Now, the rain, especially when it is heavy like last night, is very noisy on the conservatory roof. It makes a right din and wakes me up too, it did last night. I got up and closed the window. However I am at rather a loss as to what I am supposed to do about it?

In any event I said I was very sorry that the weather on my building disturbed them, and invited her to bring me practical solutions on how to rectify the issue! She huffed, said I was unhelpful and left.

Couldn't make it up! Roll on two weeks....

Not exactly batshit but I had a neighbour who used to scream at her boyfriend in Italian practically without drawing breath from dawn till dusk. I’m not sure she ever paused to eat.

Weirdly she was extremely nice and friendly in person.

MrsSpookyM · 13/08/2020 20:08

My cat would also like to know how to make the rain stop. He thinks it's my fault too.

Mammatino · 13/08/2020 20:14

Well you should have pulled the conservatory down immediately and flagellated yourselves with the guttering... obviously not the crazy fools. I’m glad they are moving, fingers crossed for some nice ones for you 😃

We live in a fist-floor flat in a purpose-built block and the 70-yr old man in the flat beneath us has recently bought a largish camper van which he parks in the car park out the front. He told DH that, as he has a lodger, he wanted some privacy when his assorted escorts arrive and not to worry if said vehicle starts rocking during the day. And this it does, at least 3 times a week. I found it amusing first of all but now it disgusts me.

Can I please put my tent in your garden? I love the sound of rain hitting the roof. It rarely rains hard enough here.

Might wait until BSN moves though 🤣

Mine at batshit, but not in an amusing way! He just thinks he rules the world.

peonyblossom · 13/08/2020 20:30

DH did say to me (after he stopped laughing) that I should have offered to take it down, see what she said!

My batshit neighbour yelled at me for trimming branches that were overhanging into my garden. They weren’t even her trees but she accused me of cutting down the trees and destroying her privacy. Wouldn’t listen to reason.

She has now built a high deck overlooking my garden without getting the necessary planning permission!

Hypocrite

megletthesecond · 13/08/2020 20:37

I won't give away too many details but mine are attempting yet another half arsed messy garden re-design.
I'm constantly fascinated by them wasting money on making a mess, abandon it halfway through then have another daft idea.
People like that shouldn't be allowed to have a garden. It's not even wildlife friendly, just crap pebbles and landscaping.

shadypines · 13/08/2020 20:42

Road next to ours had same name eg Twilight avenue and Twilight road. We lived at no 12 Twilight avenue, hence people who lived at no 12 Twilight road used to get our post. The old guy used to think it was perfectly normal to knock on our living room window at midnight with the post and scare the sh*t out of us if we were sat watching TV.

Obviously the letter box during the daytime was not an option.

ALongHardWinter · 13/08/2020 21:07

Mammatino That did make me laugh! Grin

MuthaFunka61 · 13/08/2020 21:10

My neighbour asked me to keep the frogs which're attracted to my pond from going in her garden.

I said I'll have a word Confused

mommybear1 · 13/08/2020 21:12

Wow 😮 just wow 2 weeks you say? 📆 ✅

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/08/2020 21:18

Mine asked me if we could not use the lights in our house on winter mornings. Not sure why she expects us to live in the dark to suit her, but the absolute hypocrite that she is she's never thought that her ridiculous security light might cause us any disturbance. It literally shines into our house.

Goldenanchor · 13/08/2020 22:09

Ours laid a path of 15 - 20 large and very old flags though our back garden because ‘they wanted to take the bins out that way’... They have direct access to the street from their own garden. No discussion we just arrived home to it one day. That’s only one of the many mental things they have done.

Whaaaat? Please tell us that you got them to remove them.
Dryadia · 13/08/2020 22:40

Heavy rain is my favorite, well that and fork lightning and thunder.

I play some of this this most nights before bed. Converted my adult kids too.

Walked home, over 8 miles down country lanes in a massive thunderstorm aged 12, been addicted ever since.

Iverunoutofnames · 13/08/2020 22:41

We only have on street parking but one of ours thinks she owns the space outside her house.
If anyone dares to park there she blocks them in. Problem is when she does that she actually blocks a neighbours car in on their drive (only one to have one). She doesn’t see the issue.

Goldenanchor · 13/08/2020 22:55

@seven201 Oh yes but it took a visit from the police. We’d had many issues before we got to the point of calling them but that was the thing that topped it off!

Clearthinking · 13/08/2020 23:03

A few doors down bought a cockeral. When it makes a noise, the neighbours have taken to shouting at it to shut up...

A quick call to the relevant department should be your next move.
Hammer12 · 13/08/2020 23:14

Tell them you are having it taken down in 2 weeks and 1 day.

Bargebill19 · 13/08/2020 23:27

Mine doesn’t like the colour of my car..... but didn’t offer to buy me a different coloured one.
Not sure if they are unreasonable or me for asking!
(My car is across the road and behind both their and my hedge and gate)

AlltheRs · 13/08/2020 23:43

Didn't believe in flying ant day. Anything she didn't like was to do with us or from us.
Complained bitterly to us, landlord and council about my ants spilling out of my garden and congregating at the back of her house and besieging her in her own home! Every year without fail.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 14/08/2020 08:24

We live on a privately owned 'estate' - ie all the land here, inc the driveway, is split between the various houses, so there's no issue of parking on a public road.

Couple bought the house next door recently. As they will have found out when they saw the plans, the only parking space they own is the patch of land in front of their house, right in front of their French windows. Guess where they don't park?????

They've told DP not to park his van opposite their house (on land we own), to make sure he keeps his car tucked in in front of our house so they can get past (dead end, they have no reason to be as far down the drive as this) and moaned that if we got rid of our second car they could park in that space (on our land).

I need to learn to drive, just so that I can drive up and park in 'their' parking space, then, when they argue, point out that if it's a free for all for them it is for me to, and since they don't use that space I will. Annoyingly, DP won't go that far!
