Printer

Hi everyone,

Was wondering if anyone could help me.

I need a printer. A printer with cheap ink.

I had a printer about 10 years ago but ink was sooo expensive I stopped using it and gave it away.

Has anyone got a printer which uses cheap ink?

Thank you in advance for any replies!

I have an Epson XP-245, think it was about £30 ish from Argos, 3 years ago. I use compatible cartridges from Ebay for it, they're about a fiver ish for one of each colour & last maybe 3 months or so (I only changed the magenta and black while printing 2 lots of school stuff while the girls were doing school work at home).

It prints well enough for what we need & so far we've had no problems with the compatible inks :)

I don't use it myself (yet) but HP do their online Instant Ink. You get a printer and choose a plan depending on how many pages you expect to print. The ink gets delivered direct to you.

As I said I don't use it but I know a few people who do. Apparently, you can change your plan if an increase in printing is expected (lockdown case in point etc)

Maybe worth a look and see?

I would never recommend an Epson....bad experience.

I'm never buying an HP printer again. Won't accept anything but overpriced HP ink cartridges.

I have a black and white laser printer (Brother DCP-1610W). The replacement toner cartridges are fairly cheap - about £7.50 for 1000 pages.

@JamieLeeCurtains get a chip re-setter from eBay if you want to use non brand inks. It's around £5-£11 to get one, you hold it against the ink chip for about 3 seconds and the printer will then accept it. You can also use it to get rid of the "ink empty" thing when you know it's just low and has a lot more printing left in it!

I have an Epson and it's okay and an old HP which is a belter. I used them both for making wedding invites as one would do a gold printing and the other could do card. Both are used rarely so having cheap non-brand inks is a must or I'd be wasting tons of cash on branded stuff to just dry out.

It all depends on what you want the printer for OP. High usage? High speed? Top quality printing? Cheapest ink cost? Printers often excel in one or two things but not all unless you're paying megabucks.

I have a Kodak printer, this is my second Kodak, I find the ink reasonable and the printers have lasted really well.

I had a HP one prior to the Epson. Didn't use the instant ink thing - I could never get my head around it.

It wasn't brilliant tbh, it ate ink like it was going out of fashion & cost a fortune to keep filled because it didn't like compatibles (I didn't know about the chip resetter thing; that would have been handy!)

Thank you!

I appreciate the advice from a creative.

Chip resetter.

Different brand ones can cost more.

I have a HP printer. I like it a lot better since I purchased an ink refill kit from tesco for a fiver.

ginandbearit · 14/08/2020 23:03

I use Canon printers been bulletproof , Ive printed thousands of greeting cards with them . I get cheap but very good inks from World of Inks .co uk based in Petersfield but sells online and gives excellent advice and service , highly recommend

Try stinky ink. They do ‘fake’ ink that’s great.
