Quick poll - how much to pay teenager to feed cat?

Hi, just looking for opinions here. How much is a reasonable amount to pay a 14 year old (lives on neighbouring street) to feed our cat for 9 days? It would be once a day. Don't want to be stingy, but we are not exactly rolling in it, TIA Smile

£5 per day if once a day and local

Findahouse21 · 13/08/2020 14:36

I'd agree, about £5 per day

milienhaus · 13/08/2020 14:37

Our adult professional cat sitter is £10 per visit so around £5 per visit for a teenager sounds fine.

When DD1 fed a local cat once a day, she was paid £10 for a week (daily visit for about 10 minutes, on same street). She was 12/13 at the time and although they'd originally offered much more, we felt it would set her up for being forever disappointed by other jobs available to teenagers. She's nearly 16 now and earns £5 for 30 mins tutoring although some families choose to pay her double that.

Meganplays · 13/08/2020 15:25

£20

WokusPocus · 13/08/2020 17:41

Thanks everyone. Looks like £5 a day is the going rate. Smile

Bloody hell, you're all generous . I was going to say £10 for the 9 days. It only 15 mins work?

WokusPocus · 13/08/2020 18:12

Probably about 15 mins. I may ask them to water our plants too. It's a really tricky one to call!

I paid £5 ish. The teenager is now at adult so it increased over time. She just moved away so I had to find a professional sitter. Was lucky to get one for £6 a visit. Most were much more.
I like to pay enough so they think it's worth it and want to say yes. Same for babysitting

Margo34 · 13/08/2020 18:29

I'm with @killerofmen and would also say £10 for the 9 days!
£5 per day and I'd be expecting them to buy the cat food too 😂

GetUpAgain · 13/08/2020 18:32

Round here teenagers get £20 a week for looking after pets.

allmycats · 13/08/2020 20:06

Those saying £10 for 9 days are cheeky feckers, £5 a day is a much fairer price.

Hippofrog · 13/08/2020 20:08

Id just pay £50

StarSpangled372 · 13/08/2020 20:25

I’d pay them £20. That’s a decent amount for a teen for not much work.

Stompythedinosaur · 13/08/2020 20:41

We pay £5 per day to feed our animals (though we have quite a menagerie).

Poor fuckers rather than cheeky.
Pipandmum · 13/08/2020 21:07

I paid my cleaner £100 to come feed my rabbits for two weeks. She sometimes came twice a day. So for a teen I'd expect to pay half that (to come once a day).

Elieza · 13/08/2020 21:34

A fiver a day sounds good. Gives them an incentive to remember to come every day.

Make sure they don’t let the cat escape....!

goingtotown · 13/08/2020 21:57

£30. It’s cheaper than a cattery.

Lazysundayafternoons · 13/08/2020 22:06

My neighbour asked me to look after her cat, in MY house, while she was away for a week.
The cat had a sleepover at my house prior to them going away to see if he liked it here.
When I told her the cat was happy to see us when we came down in the morning, she was shocked because I hadn't let her cat sleep in my bed.
I dont have any pets and dont like animals in the house, but really find it hard to say no to people.
In return I got a bar of chocolate Blush.

PeachPotato · 13/08/2020 22:32

I’d offer £20 for the trip but give them £30

Chewbecca · 13/08/2020 22:40

£25 seems a good compromise.

HollyHocks13 · 13/08/2020 22:50

My 14 year old would be absolutely chuffed with £20. I can't believe people are suggesting £5 a day - they're only popping in once a day!

WokusPocus · 14/08/2020 09:20

@Lazysundayafternoons - wow - sounds like your neighbour is a bit of a cheeky f*cker! Shock

I am confused now - everyone has such different opinions! I am leaning towards £30-£35 but will ask for our plants to be watered and bins out on bin day too.
