Do I mention it ?

My previous but one job lasted for 5 years, service ended because of Covid. Found another job with NHS, was a disaster, stress levels through the roof, unsafe practice, resigned after 3 weeks. This was 2 weeks ago.
I have a job interview on Friday, do I keep quiet about the 3 week job or mention it ? I don’t want to look like a job hopping flake, but want to remain professional.
What would you do in this position?

I’d say you need to mention it as it will show in your P45 if you were to be offered the job anyway.

I think making such a quick decision is actually a good thing. You’ll have been within the probation period I assume?

Cazz246 · 11/08/2020 22:57

Yes I was in the probation period, still in the first month so was able to leave immediately.
My P45 is from my long term employment actually wrong, ( in this instance in my favour) it states I didn’t leave them until July 29 th , when I actually left on June 19th !

So no p45 involved in 3 week stint?

Just tell them as if they find out, could be considered gross misconduct....better to be honest.

Cazz246 · 12/08/2020 00:16

Flyinggeese, I guess there is a P 45 for the 3 week job as I was paid. I just haven’t received it yet. As I’m claiming JSA will it go directly to DWP?

Whynotdance , I feel I will have to , as I think I will slip up if get the job. I think as it’s still so recent, it’s the right thing to do.

Sorry OP I don’t know; I thought p45 came to the employee to pass to new employer.

Agree you do need to mention the job. I’d be upfront and find a neat, light, way of referencing it. Focus on realising very quickly it wasn’t right. No shame in that and you did the right thing. Remember probation works both ways and it’s your chance to check out the employment before you commit to longer notice terms etc.

Good luck on Friday.

I'd be honest. After five years service it won't do you any harm - sometimes things just don't work out. You don't need to go into depth, but just mention that you were happy with the practices or and you got out quickly so that you and the employer could both move on. It happens fairly frequently.

Cam2020 · 12/08/2020 08:08

or the role

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 12/08/2020 08:11

Could you say you took a job on a temporary basis (as obviously you need some sort of income) whilst you looked for a permanent position?

lljkk · 12/08/2020 08:27

I would try to find a way to say it was a temporary job, supply work or something.

P45 will come to you. In time!
EatsShootsAndRuns · 12/08/2020 10:09

I'd be honest and say that you took the job but realised quickly that it wasn't right for you so decided to move on.

Are you actually getting JSA as you left your job voluntarily? They always used to sanction for that if you couldn't show good cause.

Cazz246 · 12/08/2020 10:18

Haha, looks like I’m soon going to have a collection of P45s!
I can’t get away with pretending it was a temporary post as it was the local nhs Health Service Trust, they don’t do such short term temporary, as being nhs it takes a couple of months for HR to check you out ! The interview is at a medical centre, everyone knows how everything works as most healthcare staff move around and everyone knows “ how things work”!
I think I will have to mention it , and take a punt , if doesn’t go down well then so be it.

Eastshoots. There’s now a new style JSA which everyone is entitled to if you have worked continuously over the last 2-3 years, regardless of how you left your job or how much savings you have. You can only get this for 6 months.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 12/08/2020 10:57

Ok, I didn't know that. Smile I knew the rules had probably changed a lot since I had to claim. Hope you find something more suitable soon.

Cazz246 · 12/08/2020 11:06

Thank you 😊
