What is the Government guidance/ rule on sharing a hotel room (separate beds) with someone from another household (not in your bubble)?

We have a hotel booking (made way before Covid) and in the UK. It’s a twin room but for me and a friend.

Is anyone able to sign post me to the guidance that clearly states whether this is or is not permitted at present?

Many thanks MumsnetSmile

Forget the government guidance - do you think it's sensible?
I went away for a weekend with two other friends and we cancelled the pre booked triple room and got three singles. Was too paranoid about being in enclosed space for at least 8 hrs

I would say if two households can mix socially distanced in a house or restaurant/pub then you can stay in a twin room with a friend?

“Forget the government guidance - do you think it's sensible?”

The Government guidance is key to the reason I’m asking. I appreciate we can make our own judgement but it’s the rules I need to check.

The hotel say it’s fine so we’d lose whole cost if we cancel or have to pay double to get another room for the 5 nights (which we can’t afford even if there was one available)

If the hotel says it's fine, then there's your answer!

IrenetheQuaint · 11/08/2020 22:28

It's perfectly legal.

Here's the governments guidance

'3.3 Can I go on holiday? Can I stay in my second home?
Yes, you can stay overnight away from the place where you are living. This includes staying overnight in a second home, hotels, bed and breakfasts or campsites.
You should only stay overnight in groups of up to two households (anyone in the same support bubble counts as one household) and should ensure you maintain social distancing with anyone you do not live with or is not in your support bubble. Take particular care to maintain excellent hygiene – washing hands and surfaces – and avoid using shared facilities like bathrooms wherever possible.'

You can stay overnight at someone's house as long as you socially distance so I presume the same goes for a hotel (and neither of you are from the special lockdown areas).
Are you doing anything nice??

ceeveebee · 11/08/2020 22:37

Unless one of you lives in greater Manchester/Lancashire/East York’s or Leicester where you are not allowed to be indoors with anyone outside your bubble, then yes this is fine and legal for two households to stay together overnight . You should try to socially distance within the room though

“You should...not stay overnight away from your home with members of more than 2 households (including your support bubble)”
