If you work in further education - will you use ppe?

We have been told we are allowed to wear face masks at work, but I suspect the vast majority won't.
From experience of teaching 16-18 yr olds, If I wear a mask, they will just play on the fact that they cannot hear me. Visor's aren't proven to be much protection apparently. I am wondering about either, refusing to leave the front of my classroom (which means not supporting certain students over their shoulder as we normally do) or perhaps a mask that pulls down, that I can use when I need to get close to students.
Anyone else using any ppe?

I don't understand the visor issues.

Surely, something is better than absolutely zero protection. Personally I would like all staff and pupils to wear visors at all times indoors!
Extra breaks if necessary outside to take them off but, not much protection wins over, no protecting at all in my view.

I suppose so and hairdressers are using them but people keep saying they aren't worth using so u am just considering other options.

I will probably have a mask for closer 1.1 interactions (I work safeguarding/pastoral/welfare)...

When doing introductions to groups etc they will all be seated prior so I will be fine at the front.

I will however be avoiding lifts (which will have a positive effect on my diet I suppose) as at least 10 try to get into what are very small lifts

We have the same problem with lists but they are making them so they are only accessible with staff badges.

Where is the research to say visors are useless?

I think they are better than nothing.
With a hairdresser she is standing over her client. Therefore if the aerosol is coming under or the side, it will be dropping down at the client.

But side by side in the same level, its better than absolutely zero.

We have categorically been told that all staff at our Sixth Form College will be wearing PPE.

I’m relying on it and with a large percentage of the student body living in multi generational, BAME households, we won’t be the only ones.

Teacher12345 · 11/08/2020 21:24

@Swelteringmeltering I'm not sure if there is evidence but there is alot of talk about it because they are not airtight.
@itsaratrap I wish that they were saying it at the college but they are making out they are doing us a favour by letting us make the choice because guidelines say we shouldn't be using them.

Teacher, masks are not air tight. Only fitted gas type masks will be.

Many masks that peoples wear are not suitable either.

If I cough in your face or sneeze, your visor, your plastic sheild will be protect you from the droplets.
Maybe some will hit you, but not as many as me sneezing in your face. It's common sense isn't it?

Teacher12345 · 11/08/2020 22:10

I know many masks are not suitable but I have been reading about the ones which do work and using those. I need to find some stuff about visors.
