Prepacked salmon with a use by date of 9th August?

I bought it last week and completely forgot it was in the fridge. It’s vacuum packed and still looks the right colour but don’t fancy food poisoning so just checking what others think please.

Does it smell okay?
As long as you cook it well, it should be fine

RedStreetMonument · 11/08/2020 10:06

I'd go by smell too.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 11/08/2020 10:06

Yeah I’d sniff it. You’ll know straight away if it’s ok or not. I’ve had plenty of things - mainly chicken - from supermarkets that’s still in date but when you open it you know it’s not right.

Meant to say, I wouldn’t go strictly on dates anyway.

Okbutnotgreat · 11/08/2020 10:22

Even for fish?? Excellent then I’ll have a sniff when I open it. That’s what I was hoping MN wisdom would saySmile

Prawns, definitely not. Salmon or mackerel possibly. Depends on look and smell. A bit like chicken vs beef.

Pelleas · 11/08/2020 12:47

Do you have a cat? Cut a tiny bit off and see if the cat will eat it. If not, it's probably off.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 11/08/2020 12:54

@Pelleas - based on your system one assumes you eat mice, spiders and birds?
Grin

Pelleas · 11/08/2020 12:56

@WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat As long as they're not past their use-by date!!

DelphiniumBlue · 11/08/2020 12:58

Smoked salmon, yes. Otherwise probably not.
