Same prescription, new glasses - blurry

hi

Got my eyes tested a week ago. Got told the prescription has not changed - she checked the lenses on my old glasses and was able to tell i guess what the prescription is on them.

i picked out a new pair anyway as old ones are battered. Wore them in the store, and told them how my left eye is still blurry and got told 'dont worry, they will adjust'

With the old pair, both lenses are exactly the same, nice and clear.

Has this happened to you ever? I understand headaches etc with new glasses, but blurry vision..with the same prescription..

Take them back, the prescription might have been made up wrong.
I have had this happen before - the prescription was right but the focal point was wrong.

dasherr · 10/08/2020 19:30

Same as the previous poster I've had glasses made up wrong before. Take them back and ask them to check.

Boopeedoop · 10/08/2020 19:32

Happened to my mum once. They put the lenses in the wrong way. (left in right, and vice versa)!

Definitely go back. I've had this too when they took the measurements wrong so the focal point was off. They had to make me up new ones with the correct measurements.

Coriandersucks · 10/08/2020 19:34

I had the same problem, took them back. They never found out the reason but they refunded me the money and I got them done elsewhere now they’re absolutely fine.

MrsT1405 · 10/08/2020 20:12

Happened to my ds at about 7. He'd worn glasses for ages, no problem then wouldn't wear is new ones. Turned out Boots had made up totally the wrong prescription. Took a lot of stamping of feet to sort it out. They swore it was my son , not them.

Mumteedum · 10/08/2020 20:16

Yes happened to me too. Was retested free of charge by senior optician and new new prescription rushed through. First one was totally wrong

CaffeineInfusion · 10/08/2020 20:20

Yep. Go back.

My varifocals were measured wrong. No one would believe me until I went in at the end of the day and made myself comfortable when they wanted to go home😂

That did the trick.

NewKittyMeow · 10/08/2020 20:22

This has happened to me - correct prescription but the wrong focal point.

helpfulperson · 10/08/2020 20:25

Most things like this are correct prescription wrong measurements or make up of glasses.

Halsall · 10/08/2020 20:27

Definitely go back, OP. I paid a lot for new varifocals and knew immediately they weren't right. Persisted with them for a week or so but eventually went back and yes, they factory had placed the varifocal bit (don't know the technical term!) wrongly on the lenses. Had them re-done at no cost, no bother at all. Optician was perfectly fine about it.

Stargazer2404 · 10/08/2020 20:46

Thank you guys, thats what it seems like..wrong focal point. I will be going back tomorrow. Wont let them fob me off again

OP posts:
underneaththeash · 10/08/2020 21:11

Wrong focal point simply means wrong prescription. That’s what glasses correct - a focal point that isn’t in the macula.
OP it could be a few things, just go back and get it checked...most opticians have a remake rate of 2-3%.

Apolloanddaphne · 10/08/2020 21:16

I've had glasses where they put the lenses in the wrong way round too. They fixed them at no cost to me.

MrsT1405 · 10/08/2020 21:20

You can try lifting the glasses up and down on your face to see if its better or not.

Elouera · 10/08/2020 21:25

Slightly different, but I had my lenses replaced in my glasses. I still thought they were blurry, but the old lenses were in the bag they showed me, so gave them my 2nd set to send off too. Another week later and when they came back, they also seemed blurry. I inisited on them checking on their machine, and suprise, suprise, they had replaced my glasses with new lenses in my OLD prescription!!! I've never been to specsavers ever since!

Do get them checked OP to be sure, as they shouldnt be blurry!

Beaniebeemer · 10/08/2020 22:31

This has literally happened to me in the last week! I’m going to have to go back with them. I think the focal point may be off. The prescription almost seems too strong. Vision Express if you are wondering!

FredaFox · 10/08/2020 22:38

Omg I could have written this, picked my new glasses up on Saturday and while they are clearer than my last pair they still don’t seem as sharp as I’d expect new glasses to be
Bit nervous about calling g them back but it’s a lot of money

pinkcattydude · 10/08/2020 23:54

Me too, I Picked up mine on Sunday and they seem better when half way down my nose. I’ve already gone back once as I hated the frame on the first pair, I’m giving it a day or two more I think they may ban me

Stargazer2404 · 11/08/2020 09:28

I went there just now, got told 'we dont know what your previous prescription was so not sure' .. i told them 'you had my old glasses though, and told me it hasnt changed...so can you atleast check that my glasses lenses are correct?'

They said 'not until october.. we are busy' - Asda opticians

OP posts:
Stargazer2404 · 11/08/2020 09:32

And they kept banging on about getting a retest done. But the issue isnt the retest, its the glasses that are supposedly the same prescription as my old pair.. i just wanted someone to makesure theyre the right Pupilary distance etc .. oh well. It is what it is. Thanks everyone x

Personally I think you should not accept that! - go back and ask for a refund and go elsewhere. They can't leave you unable to see fgs!

Halsall · 11/08/2020 10:37

No, that's not good enough, stargazer. I'd escalate that. Complain - there seems to be an email address: [email protected]

If you've still got your old glasses it's a simple matter to determine it should be the same prescription and - presumably - either isn't, or the new lenses are messed up in some way. Their cock-up and their responsibility to put right or refund, as you've paid for a faulty product.

NewKittyMeow · 11/08/2020 14:35

I agree, not good enough! Get on Twitter!

If they tested you, then they didn't do a good enough job. They need to fix it.

allmycats · 11/08/2020 16:20

A few things to check. You say they took your prescription from your old glasses. Did they use the paper prescription, or did they read directly from the glasses. Do you know if the prior pair had been made up exactly to the written prescription by the optometrist, or had it said on the records your prescription with the notation ' but give xxxx' as some lenses are not always the same as the written rx. Were you new lenses made up at the same place and time of your eye test, or did you go somewhere else ? The answer you were given is not satisfactory. Try a local independent for a new eye test.
