Osteopath for shoulder and elbow?

Bluesheep8 · 10/08/2020 06:58

Due to the current situation I'm unable to have an ultrasound done in order to have a steroid injection put into my shoulder for suspected impingement.
I also have ongoing tendonitis/tennis elbow in the same arm.
Has anyone got any experience of osteopathy helping with either of these problems? Tia

definitely worth a try!
My experiences of osteopathy have only been good, he sorted long term back problems caused by a childhood accident, straightened me up after an uninsured driver went into the back of me at traffic lights and years later I went back for a check àfter falling down the stairs and twisting my pelvis and he fixed my carple/cubital tunnel (caused by crutches and pushing myself along the floor with a broken leg) i wasn't.expeclting that Grin

Another recommendation for an osteopath, sorted my painful neck and shoulder.

Osteopaths are great. I was on crutches with SPD in pregnancy, and a rough forceps delivery aggravated my pelvis even more. I started going 3 months postnatally as once again I had to get the bus over a mile home from the shops because I couldn't face the pain of walking 400m uphill.

The relief was instant. I wasn't right straight away, but muscles that were permanently tight were eased and 3 months after my first visit, I no longer nedded to limp and could start C25k.

A lot of issues can be resolved with a shorter course. I seem to tighten out of alignment very easily (poor flexibility that's never cured by regular yoga) so I tend to have a monthly MOT.

This all sounds really positive, thank you.

Yes I love my osteopath. I'm 50 and as a runner my body has taken some abuse but never yet (fingers crossed) anything he can't fix.

He recommends strongly against steroid injections he says they're a short term fix that can make things worse in the long run (so I'm far to young to think about them Grin ) and as he's always been able to fix me, I trust him.

I just wanted to update on this. After all the positive responses I had my first session yesterday. On examination, the osteopath gave a completely different diagnosis which was a complete surprise.
She is of the opinion that it's a pinched nerve in my neck (c3?) causing BOTH the shoulder and elbow/forearm pain and restricted movement. She suspects it's caused by years of compensating for a left frozen shoulder which I had for over 2 years and only recovered fully from last year.
I can already feel a small improvement so am very hopeful the treatment will improve things.
Thank you for sharing your experiences which encouraged me to explore osteopathy Smile

So glad you're pleased and hope you're better soon.

My Osteopath often seems to find a different diagnosis to the doctors too. In fact he "found" my friend's cancer when GP was treating it as a muscular problem in his neck and prescribing pain killers. He didn't attempt diagnose (not being qualified to do that) but insisted he went back to GP and told him what to tell them to get the diagnosis he needed.

Similarly, when I was in agony with shoulder pain, he checked me over and declared nothing at all wrong with my shoulder, examined my abdomen and found an inflamed liver (which apparently can cause referred shoulder pain) which was confirmed by GP and treated with antibiotics.

TBF he does get an hour instead of the GP's 5-10 mins.

I think I need to book. I have bad posture and what I think is kind of a frozen shoulder which means I can't / barely lift my hand up, now struggling to shave under my arm! Blush

oblomov I would definitely look into it if I were you. Having been through a frozen shoulder myself and clearly still suffering the after effects on the other side years later, it's well worth looking into osteopathy at the freezing stage before it becomes frozen.
