Kidney Infection

Normally hate posts where people ask for medical advice but sort of don't want to waste a GP appointment. I have a kidney infection. I've had four days of IV antibiotics (two types) and I am taking two lots of tablets. I was starting to feel better Friday and yesterday (was discharged on Friday). I feel absolutely awful again this afternoon. Back to being shivery, vomiting and absolutely pouring with sweat. The kidney pain has gone and it no longer burns when I pee.

Any ideas, or suggestions? I am trying to drink a rehydration sachet thing and have taken paracetamol but wondering if I am still like this in the morning if it would warrant asking the GP for some further advice.

I sort of know what is happening but it's also very new (apologies for not making to much sense).

So i have not only an infection inside the kidney but also in the lining and its gone to the lining (they said this is like internal skin inside your body) in other organs... one kidney is absolutely fine but obviously working very hard.

I (they) had an issue with a "take" registrar overnight (I think thats the new word for the med reg??), the nurses and the doctors called them and quite frankly they were awful. There was a massive argument which involved me saying i wasn't comfortable with them treating me (long story but I was in with pericarditis three months ago which this person missed - i didnt realise it was the same person until today, it was there horrible behaviour which spun me out not the realisation they hadn't recognised something before).

The consultant saw me first thing with them (the med take / registrar) and they downplayed it but the consultant very clearly said "you were advised to call me last night, why didn't you?).

I spoke to the other registrar today and they explained that there have been numerous issues with this person before (I felt a bit guilty) so now they will refer to complaints procedure.

I do feel really rubbish but they said that it's not up to me.

Everyone is being nice. My ice lollies were stopped earlier today as they may need to a shunt into one kidney.

I have had lots of oramorph (its like calpol as a kid!!) and ive been moved to high dependecy in the same ward.

So grateful for those that told me to go in, really thank you very much!!

Jargo that sounds awful. What a year you have had. I’m not surprised you had that reaction and it sounds absolutely right that a complaint is being brought against the med reg. Of course human error happens but it sounds like it’s more than one mistake and of course you don’t want to be treated by someone who failed in their duty of care to you before!

I’m glad everyone is being nice and you have good pain relief. Yes, thank goodness you went in.

Do you have pseudomonas in your kidney I had that

I had a nephrostomy which gave me the infection
Have you got adequate pain relief xxx

Is it a stent or a nephrostomy that you'll have xx

cultkid · 15/08/2020 18:43

How are you feeling xx

Edel2019 · 15/08/2020 18:46

Gosh OP I've read your journey, and like the above poster I'm wondering how you are doing?

Timeforredwine · 15/08/2020 19:14

Hi I've had kidney infections before and they are excruciating! I really feel sorry for you and di hope that you get this sorted and start to recover.

Jargo · 16/08/2020 18:03

I had the stent.

I am starting to feel a little bit better. I've managed to eat some food today and I was taken for a little walk in the wheel chair. May be home next weekend!

The pain killers are really knocking me out at the moment (hence not posting for a bit)

Thank you for asking

Glad to hear you are getting the medical treatment and will soon be home.

Jargo · 16/08/2020 20:48

I've now got a bed by the window so I can see outside. It's a wonderful view!

Thank you so much everyone, you are all very, very kind.

Oh dear - saw your first post and was going to suggest going to A & E, but obviously things have moved on. I had a hyrdoneophrosis and it was without a doubt one of the most painful things ever - at least after childbirth you get a baby at the end... Smile

Seriously though, kidney pain can be so intense, so try to drink small amounts regularly rather than a lot all at once...

Not sure about the science, but cranberry juice always seemed to help me.

Hope you feel better soon...

Good view and kidney high dependency.... are you in the Royal in Liverpool? They are miracle workers in that ward!

Jargo · 16/08/2020 21:14

Yes, I am definitely trying to drink (and also having my lollies!) Will see if someone can get be cranberry juice somehow.

I am in London, I wish I was in Liverpool. We were planning to visit but COVID but a stop to that.

Hurrah for a window bed and a view! Also more ice lollies. I hope you feel a little bit better every day and you do get to go home next week. Flowers

Thank you @Gunpowder

I do feel a bit better again today, so grateful.

I am really enjoying the bed with a view - it's lovely and the skies have been dramatic today too!
