Which nappies for newborns? Are ASDA little angels ok?

We have just started to get a few bits together for first baby and we bought.asda little angels in size 1 as they were cheap! I've just been reading online and seen that they have given some babies rashes! Does anyone use these? Has anybody had a bad experience with them? Which nappies should I use? Xxx

I love Boots’ own brand and Morrison’s own brand and alternate between the two whenever there’s an offer. DS has never had a leak or nappy rash and he is 8 mo now.

SuperPixie247 · 09/08/2020 00:04

I used Aldi and never had any problems with them.

HeeeeyDuggee · 09/08/2020 00:04

I used little angels with my eldest fantastic no issue. They have my DS2 a rash so we used pampers for him. Also used pampers for my DD for similar reasons

I wouldn’t go too crazy buying nappies before baby. Get a small pack of a couple ... and see which ones suit you best. Aldi range gets lots of positive reviews from mum friends

It's trial and error with nappies and babies. Some babies will react to pretty much any nappy that they are in and others don't.

I do like the ASDA own brand nappy and my DS still wears them at nights, as for him they are the only brand that won't leak.

Grandmi · 09/08/2020 00:07

My daughter bought the Asda nappies and I insisted on buying pampers because I was convinced that the pampers were better quality!!! Both nappies were Ok for urine and the explosive nappies Ie poohs were the same for both !!

ifoundafoxcaughtbydogs · 09/08/2020 00:07

They're all fine but I like Aldi the most. I've used Pampers when donated from friends who have had children with growth spurts and they're the best, but not enough to warrant the extra cost.

I actually think Asda Little Angels are the least good, but still totally fine. Especially newborns, they're on no time at all the amount they poo!

(If you're concerned re nappy rash. As someone who has used 12 different creams Confused on a very sensitive baby's bum - weleda calendula is fab).

TeddyBeans · 09/08/2020 00:07

DS was in Pampers from day 1, I was lucky and hit on the type of nappies that suited him straight away. It can be trial and error though! One of my friends found Lidl nappies were the best for her little one after buying packets of nappies from many different places

moonbabyandthebeast · 09/08/2020 00:09

Aldis nappies are cheap and amazing in my experience with 2 children. Rarely leaked, even when going up different sizes as they grew. Occasional rashes only but due to other things- teething, illness. My youngest is still using their pull ups at night and despite being very full in the morning, they have never leaked. I would probably advise you not to stock up too much before baby is here tho because all babies are different and you may not get on with certain brands. Start with one and see how you get on then you can stock up. Oh and congratulations on your pregnancy x

Trial and error.

Pampers were the only nappies that didn't give DS a rash.

Morrison's were rubbish.

Friends swear by Asda

GrumpyHoonMain · 09/08/2020 00:18

Oh and the size of the baby makes a difference. Mine has been below the 25 weight centile (only just on the 25 centile now) and is really thin around the tummy so he needed closer fitting nappy. You just need to try different nappies until you find a brand that works for you.

This is where Bounty and Emmas Diary packs are your friend. DH and I collected so many nappy samples (and got given a 24 pack in the hospital pack) that we were able to try loads before we bought a huge pack.

sruitfalad · 09/08/2020 00:39

We've tried so many but love Lidl's nappies- they've been fab. In fact, my toddler and baby are now both in their pull up pants. The second best for us have been Tesco's Fred and Flo- shame the bigger nappies (4+ onwards) were a bad fit for our DC. Asda/Aldi were our 3/4th favourites and the worst ones followed by Pampers and Morrison's.

As someone mentioned upthread, Weleda calendula cream is THE BEST for nappy rash.

sruitfalad · 09/08/2020 00:41

"...and the worst ones followed by were Pampers and Morrison's." *

Lidl all the way. Fantastic nappies and fit DS like a dream. A lot of the others feel like plastic waterproof sheeting whereas Lidl are soft like the pampers premium but without the price tag.

SoPanny · 09/08/2020 08:13

Little Angels are the only range to never give me any problems from Sz1 all the way to the Sz5 DS is now in.

Their newborn nappies are the best IMHO, the only others I’d consider are Lidl.

Steer clear of Sainsburys nappies, they are awful. Newborn size gave DS rash so bad it bled, the older sizes are sized v small and leak.

minnie465 · 09/08/2020 08:16

Another vote for Lidl.
Used to love Asda little angels until they changed them last year.
Tesco rascal and friends (organic ones) are probably the best nappy we've tried. Though they are very expensive so have only bought them when they're on offer.

bellbaeu · 09/08/2020 08:22

I tried Asda with both my DD one 17 month the other 4 month so both still in nappies.
They were ok, did give DD1 a rash but DD2 was fine. I use Aldi with them both and love them never had a problem

Whatsmynextmove · 09/08/2020 08:26

Aldi Mamia nappies are great

zaffa · 09/08/2020 08:32

I found until they sleep through the night in one nappy there is little difference really between brands as they don't wear them for very long.
Now sadly I have found pampers to be the best at avoiding leaks (they are so expensive)!
Tesco were my favourite though when DD was under six months

AdvicePleaseThankyou · 09/08/2020 08:32

Asda little angels were used for all mine!

Noneyerbuisness11234 · 09/08/2020 08:33

I bought Asda little angels for my ds when he was born then people bought me pampers and Lidl they were all good but use Lidl now because they seem to hold he pee more now he's older 15m

zippityzip · 09/08/2020 08:35

Precious first born only had expensive pampers because surely that's all you can put on a newborns bottom.

Quickly found aldi for the second baby and they were better than pampers at literally a fraction of the price.

Currently pregnant with baby no 3 and will be heading back to aldi. Even bought a haka breast pump there for £4!

Choochoose · 09/08/2020 08:37

Any baby can potentially get a rash from any nappy, DS used to get one from Pampers, so it's not always about price. I don't like the Sainsbury's own brand much as I found that quite often one of the tabs would break, and they did leave him quite sore. Boots, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco own brands I've found fab though. I will say that it's a case of trial and error though, especially as they grow, as some suit different 'shapes' better.

Choochoose · 09/08/2020 08:37

Personally didn't get on with Aldi as they seemed to leak, but they are very good value so worth a try.

AteAllTheAfterEights · 09/08/2020 08:40

Aldi for us, I hated the smell of pampers when they were even a teeny bit wet- convinced it’s a ploy to make you change them more often

spiritedawai · 09/08/2020 08:48

Used to love Aldi nappies bit my conscience forces me to start using cloth nappies when my son was 3 months old and never turned back.
