Lavender - should it be in food?

Curious what people think...

Just had some Co Op Blackcurrant and Lemon ice cream.
DH thought it was lush.
The Junior Engineer thought it tasted like soap.

I checked the ingredients and it said "... with a hint of lavender".

Essential oil, soap, room fragrance, candles, linen spray, all of those things.
BUT.
Does it work in food, I ask you?

Thank you.

No. It should be in soap or washing powder. Has no place in food.

There used to be a tea shop attached to a lavender farm in Devon. The lemon and lavender cake was utterly delicious. As were all of their offerings.

No I do not like floral flavours in food. It tastes like soap to me. Corriander also tastes soapy to me.

I wonder if it's like coriander in that some people are genetically programmed to think it tastes of soap.

I personally think lavender in food is an abomination, but I'm quite willing to admit that it might be lovely for other people. I always cringe when they use it on bake off. They either put too little in so you can't taste it (good!) Or they over do it and Paul Hollywood chokes on it (also good!)
