Day trip to Camber Sands?

First off I know it's been one of the beaches in the news today for being rammed! We're thinking of going tomorrow...... we'd take the train (don't have a car), go really early, and walk as far along the beach as we can, as I know it's 3 miles long. Hopefully we would have a better chance of it being slightly quieter! Other option is doing it on Sunday instead as the trains seem to be running the same then, though obviously shops would shut early.

Any advice? Is there anywhere decent to get fish and chips or other food that's not a sit down meal? Is there anywhere to refill water bottles?

Thank you!

Also, the journey back home is the worst with sand stuck on your sunburnt skin as there aren't any showers and you will literally fight to get a seat on the train. Driving is worse as you will spend ages to park and get stuck in traffic on the way and back.

You live in SW London. Enjoy Richmond Park or Wimbledon Common instead and you will have a longer day and less traffic to sit in.

I’m reluctant to say this OP, as I resent sharing a section of the beach, but why not go to Herne Bay (I’m aware Mumsnet does not like it at all Grin)? Even in this heat it’s not too crowded, particularly if you can walk a little further to the King’s Hall end.

Minnis Bay is lovely, too, and unlike HB it’s sand not shingle. You’ll have to walk a mile or so from Birchington station. It’s v. crowded ATM, but not intolerably so.

I would go to Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton & Hove, Worthing, Littlehampton, or Bognor on the train. The smaller places involve getting a train to a nearby town then using taxi/bus driver etc. They also have restaurants, cafes, shops near the beaxh and much more likely to have toilet provisions. Camber sands beach is quite far from Rye and Rye is South east of London. The beach is lovely but really other than the holidays parks there is not a lot there at all

Went to Broadstairs! It was quite busy on the beach but fine really, nice and sandy and the trains weren’t too busy! We got seats no problem.

Thanks for your advice everyone.

@elstree2020 I do indeed live in SW London! However I have spent the last 5 minutes going to the various commons/parks and really wanted a change of scenery and the sea!
