Natural deodorants - are they better?

I recently bought my daughter a natural deodorant. She's only 8 so I thought she doesn't need an anti perspirant or anything with lots of chemicals. Just she's been sweating in this weather.

Anyway, then I started reading a lot about how natural deodorants are better for you and watching some YouTube videos. They don't have aluminum or parabens. But if you use them you'll have a detox stage where you sweat excessively and smell. Anti perspirants have salts which block your sweat glands and you need to swear that all out. But once you're through that stage it's fine. And you can do an underarm mask to help with the detox.

This sounds like a lot of effort. Natural deodorants are also more expensive. And I'm not sure I want to switch myself. But had anyone done it and found it better? It is worth the transition?

My skin isn't particularly sensitive and I'm not that sweaty.

Just interested to hear from others really.

I decided to give it a go. I haven't done a detox mask just started using it. And It's fine.

I am still swearing a bit but there's no smell at all. I got a salt of the earth melon and cucumber roll on. It doesn't have a strong smell so I was skeptical but I've been really surprised. I've been clearing my garden and two tip runs today too!

I might keep it up. I'll definately give the other Salt of the earth deodorant to my daughter. She doesn't need it everyday but does on hot days.

Elsa's cream deoderant in ocean is lovely and gets chubby me through heatwave days

Well I've been trialing the pitrock one on the back of this thread and it's doing a pretty good job.

I think a lot depends on your personal make up. A friend of mine uses natural deodorants and I’ve never noticed her smelling.
I, on the other hand, have tried several and none of them have worked well enough. By the end of the day I’ll be pretty whiffy and I can’t stand the smell of BO!
We’re both post menopausal so it’s not even related to that!

Just a tip I've learned over the years for those of you who've used Driclor and it has caused itching and soreness (long-time hyperhydrosis sufferer here). Try putting talc under your arms before using. Any trace of moisture causes the itching and burning. I started using the talc beforehand decades ago and have never had a problem since. I realise I'm going to use it tonight and be plagued by the itching though - sods law!

MooGoo deodorant - everything else stopped working, even the extra strong Sure, all versions of Mitchum, Driclor etc etc.

I’d go shower, with soap, not gel, go to work and by lunchtime I would smell really sour. It was so embarrassing.

I changed to MooGoo after a nurse told me about it. Took a couple of days to settle then it was perfect. She said it took some people a week to adjust, but they all did. It’s been perfect for me, at my busiest my armpits are only very slightly damp but completely stench free. And as a bonus my underarm skin has never been smoother.

I’ve never noticed marks on my dark clothes, and my white t shirts no longer yellow under the arms. I love it but by god it’s a devil to find in the shops. Best bet is through their website.

Hello. I thought I'd give an update. I have been using the natural deodorant for a month and it's just not working. I haven't done an underarm detox with apple cider vinegar and clay but I think a month is long enough for the toxins to be drawn out!
So I'm going back to using dove deodorant.
I'm going to keep the natural deodorants for my daughter as she isn't too sweaty and only needs them on hot days or days with dancing or PE.
It's a shame. I loved the idea. But it wasn't for me.
