Tea in a flask

seven201 · 06/08/2020 17:35

Tea with milk in in a flask tastes horrible. From my googling I've discovered that it's alright if you add the milk in later. It seems you used to be able to buy a flask with a mini milk compartment but I can't find one of those. Has anyone seen any for sale?

Or do I just need to accept I'm going to have to buy a separate mini flask for milk? Like many others, I now won't have easy access to a kettle at work come September.

We had one in the 70s Grin it was a cute little glass bottle. Sorry no help Grin

I find tea with milk from a flask is fine, as long as I pour it into my normal mug and don't drink from the plastic one.

Teaandscone · 06/08/2020 17:39

These flasks are extremely good. Pre-heat with boiling water, then fill with boiling water. Make your tea fresh; each 300 ml flask makes a mug full.

It’s horrible, same as microwaved tea, yuk.

Aria20 · 06/08/2020 17:42

Get a chilli bottle (keep things hot or cold for 24 hours) and then a travel mug. The tea tastes fine with milk but only if you drink out of a proper cup not the bottle!

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 06/08/2020 17:42

I fill my flask with boiling water and take separate teabags and milk. Usually use a small water bottle for the milk. This is for all-day trips to the park and it's great, fresh cuppa each time. Also take a cup from home.

Jux · 06/08/2020 18:00

I just take milk in whatever container I have and put in a cool bag if we're going to be out for a long time; otherwise I don't worry too much about keeping the milk cold, it'll be alright for a few hours out of the fridge.

If you're taking milk to work I'd get a coolbag with a small ice pack and put the milk (in a bottle) in there.

You're right; tea in a flask with milk already added is vile, and so is microwaved tea (though I do do that sometimes - I've wondered if I heat the tea in a different container and pour it back into the cup after heating that might help?).

So it might be the plastic flask mug contributing? So what kind of travel mug do I need. One that's metal? I really am clueless on mugs that aren't just normal china ones.

Tea in a flask reminds me of the bit in Hitchhiker's Guide to tbe Galaxy where Arthur Dent gets something almost but nothing entirely unlike tea.
I'm old. I've tried everything. Don't bother.

bellinisurge · 06/08/2020 18:09

Nothing? I mean not quite

Nooooooooo. That's not what I want to hear. I just want two cups of lovey tea to come out of one flask in my working day.

Thermos makers who most likely will never see this. There's demand for this. Please make us tea lovers a flask with two compartments with a nice mug.

[quote Butterer]It's pricey, but it exists...

OMG!! But £38! If it had one big section and one small section then I'd be very tempered. Currently feeling normal level of tempted! Agh.

Flask lego!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Looks like I might just go for a normal flask and a small chilly bottle for the milk. Will be carrying a lot to work each day!

What I do for picnics is freeze a small quantity of milk overnight.
Then take it out in the morning to slowly thaw. Make flask of boiling water, take tea bags. Waitrose melamine picnic mug with roses on it. Definitely not the mug on top of the flask...
But if you’re in office, bone china, obviously (!)
Tea always tastes best outside, I think, after a walk on the beach or mountain .
Also I once accidentally forgot the milk and found that I quite like black tea, Earl Grey or Lady Grey is very refreshing.

BackforGood · 06/08/2020 19:14

It would be cheaper, and make a MUCH nicer cuppa, if you bought a kettle for your desk, and just took some milk in.

Tea never tastes nice out of a flask.
The other alternative is to drink coffee Wink

Ooh! The snack pack one is a contender. Expensive once you add on the postage.

I'm a secondary school teacher so I'll be running round the huge site to where my next class is based. We're not allowed in other department offices now (most have a kettle in but no tap nearby) and I think the staff room will be a no go zone. Maybe I'll buy a kettle that runs off a cigarette lighter and spend break time in my car enjoying a fresh cup of tea in peace Grin.
