Labelling school clothes

I apologise for repeating a topic that has been done many times before, but I can't search efficiently on my phone.

What is the best/most efficient/easiest way of labelling school uniform?

I'm competent with a needle and thread but have a 4 month old baby so don't have much spare time or energy.

The easiest and most long lasting way I’ve found is using the personalised stamps....however they aren’t quite as eye catching as the coloured stickers, which are also easy.

omg35 · 06/08/2020 08:33

Stikins- you stick them on the labels of the clothes and they'll never come off! I still get old cardigans of my daughter's back that are on their third rehoming

Sew on Cash's nametapes are the best. Just do a few every day.

I go old school with fabric labels but instead of spending ages sewing all the way round I fold it over and sew the open end onto one of the labels inside. They are really easy to unpick when I pass it on as well

dementedpixie · 06/08/2020 08:35

I used to use iron on ones. Now I use a laundry marker on the label

Neveranynamesleft · 06/08/2020 08:36

Use a good biro and write their name on the shop size/washing instruction tag on the inside of the garment. Easy.

NooneElseIsSingingMySong · 06/08/2020 08:45

I have a personalised stamp and pad from Stamptastic. I did get stickers (stick on or iron on - iron on ones stick well with hair straighteners) but they peel off if you tumble dry.

blacktop · 06/08/2020 08:55

I just wrote it one with a biro or a sharpie.

Findahouse21 · 06/08/2020 08:57

I use the tiny me iron on stickers - they do a theme which is great to help little ones identify their stuff in a hurry pre reading, and mine never came off in the tumble drier. They also do co-ordination stickers for lunchboxes, bottles, shoes etc

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/08/2020 09:08

I use mynametags

NewNewt · 06/08/2020 09:10

4 kids down, its sharpie all the way here Grin

lightlypoached · 06/08/2020 09:16

Stamptastic. Really works. Fast. And can be used in clothes and other items. Game changer.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 06/08/2020 09:26

In infants and juniors I used iron-in labels that sort of melted into the fibres or the garment and didn't budge. By seniors I was just using a Sharpie on button bands and wash labels.

CoveredInBeeeees · 06/08/2020 09:29

Have used My Name Tags and Petit Fernand stickers - both really easy, effective and eye-catching colours so easy to spot immediately (Stikins (and sharpies) put me off because they’re just black and white so blend in more).

No messing about with an iron or needle, no waiting for anything to dry. Nothing easier!

CoveredInBeeeees · 06/08/2020 09:30

And I know you can get coloured sharpies...

Jemma2907 · 06/08/2020 09:34

I have used MyNametags now for a few years and they stay on as long as needed (longer than it takes for child to grow out of the clothes). They are easy to peel off if you do want to pass on clothes too. You can put a symbol next to the name which is great if you're child can't read their name yet, my son was still able to recognise that his clothes had a star on. I also have my phone number printed on the label so clothes can be returned easily.

GetRid · 06/08/2020 09:35

I use a combination of the sticky labels, the iron-on labels, and a Sharpie - depending on the item.

The toughest and longest lasting have been the iron-on.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/08/2020 09:41

For jumpers/cardigans... Permanent marker/fabric pen. Write name in big letters on inside of collar. So when there is a pile of discarded cardigans/jumpers on a bench in the playground, table in the classroom etc, the child or teacher can easily identify the owner. And they make their way back to owner easily if they do go home with wrong child. It's a lot harder when it's a small label. Unfortunately my DDs currently have navy cardigans and it doesn't work on navy....

NewNewt · 06/08/2020 09:47

Yes my kids are (were, some too old now) colour coded so they also just recognised any sharpie scrawl in their calendar. I also use this system for water bottles, sandwich boxes and on our family google calendar, works really well.

ExclamationPerfume · 06/08/2020 10:09

Those saying just use a biro or Sharpie mut never have worked with children. It is an absolute nightmare trying to match up clothes when the name has washed out or the Sharpie has bled. If you want to get things back make sure the name is legible inside.

ExclamationPerfume · 06/08/2020 10:10

must not mut.

Thisisanillegalbingogame · 06/08/2020 10:17

I can’t recommend Mynametags enough. They are reasonably priced, easy to order, children can choose their own design and mine were delivered two days after ordering last week. They go on anything and last in the washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher. I think mine were £11 (or just over) for 52 stickers which I will get a couple of years use from.

AriettyHomily · 06/08/2020 10:20

Stikins or Sharpie

Whatelsecanipossiblydo · 06/08/2020 10:22

Sharpie all the way.

MaddeningtheUnhelpful · 06/08/2020 10:22

I always write on the labels with a fabric pen. Has served me well for the last 10 years and 3 dc Grin
