Morning all,

Like many others, I lost my job in June and am struggling to find a new job - agencies I have spoken to have said that jobs in my field (PA) are mostly on hold - agencies are not getting back to me even for roles I am suitable for.

Really starting to worry as not sure things wiii improve any time soon.

I can't even find a delivery driving job 😩

Anyone in the same boat... what can u do to keep my spirits up and not panic? If I dont get something by Xmas I will be financially screwed!!

Thanks all x

Can you share some details - rough geographical area, skills, qualifications, previous jobs? How flexible are you in location, salary etc?
I'm sure there are many on here facing the reality or prospect of unemployment atm. In amongst all the job hunting take time to do two things : reduce any unnecessary outgoings and find positive ways of supporting your mental health - exercise, human contact etc.
Any opportunities for a few hours volunteering locally to extend your skill set or add to your CV? I know some charities are reopening here and looking for younger fitter volunteers as many of their regular volunteers are staying close to home.

Don’t get too down yet Remmy. it’s hard I know, but recruitment should pick up next month. People are just getting back to the office, sorting furlough and childcare issues. Most don’t know what they need yet.

Have you signed up with temping agencies in the meantime? Have you approached some “virtual PA” companies? Have you targeted the closest business park to your home, and phoned the hr manager or sales director of every company on the site? Have you registered your skills on the local council site and any other big public sector employers near you?

I’m redundant too so I’m going through the same process, but I’ve decided my job search will be mornings and I’m spending the afternoons with my ds until he goes back to school. We won’t have a holiday this year so I’m trying to get something positive from the situation. It doesn’t stop it being horrible though Hmm.

I know it’s hard not to worry but we can only do our best. Do you have a partner to help tide you over?

Thanks all

I was working in London, I am applying for jobs via secsinthecity I've had one call for a job - I have a solid CV with with longevity so I'm wondering if half these jobs are non-existent 😬

I loved my old job and company I think I'm grieving or something as feel so down x

Hi
I was made redundant october last year from a job i had been in 10 years so took my time finding a new one , did a little temping and finally got a great new job beginning march them covid happened and they had to let me go and although they hoped to take me back they let me know a few weeks back that isnt now possible for the foreseeable as lack of work now
I have applied for at least 25 jobs in last 2 weeks of which only one has come back ( with a no ) I have been qualified for all of them and have had to complete online tests for some as well and most don't get back
Have also found agencies less helpful this time
I just wish some would give feedback , is it my cv ? Do they think im over qualified /under etc
All i can suggest is keep trying and sign up to agencies , look online at indeed and sites like these
Hopefully more firms are slowly going back and will start hiring again

Notfeelinggreattoday · 06/08/2020 10:17

Also try to enjoy time off and do things you enjoy as hopefully you will soon be back at work and have less tome for yourself again

Crankley · 06/08/2020 10:21

Have you considered doing temporary work through an agency? Many people find permanent jobs by temping.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 06/08/2020 11:35

The first thing is dont take it to heart. It is not a reflection of you as a person or your skills.

Try and limit, or at least structure the time you spend job hunting. Have one afternoon a week for research where you find jobs to apply for. Have set mornings where you write applications etc.

Book one social thing a week. Covid allowing.

Keep healthy. Keep exercising regularly.

Are you targetting your cv and application to each job description? Do you use the same words that they do?

Remmy123 · 06/08/2020 12:48

Thanks all for the advice.

I'd happily temp so may go down that route but some recruiters are saying they don't have anything.

I do need to structure my job hunting time as I look through the day on and off it puts me in a very bad place so it doesn't help my mental health.

Yes maybe I need to tailor my CV more to suit the roles I am applying for - good advice!!

Thanks it's a tough world right now ☹️
