We've had dating red flags, how about JOB red flags?

The two worst jobs I ever had, I should never have taken up after the interview.

In both interviews, it was very clear that the supervisors/bosses did not want the person whose job I was interviewing for to go. In both second interviews, the person who held the position was there and in both cases the person was promoted.

There was lots of talk about how the boss/team hated to see 'Susan' or 'Wendy' go, how super Susan and Wendy were, staff would say things like 'You have big shoes to fill' and there was constant comparisons to Susan and Wendy.

I ended up quitting both after a month or two.

Now, any interview like this is the dating equivalent of talking about exes or saying your ex was psycho. I don't go any further.

Do you have any job red flags that make you nope out immediately?

In my early 20s (nearly 20 years ago Confused) I was interviewed for an Assistant Manager role at my local Waterstones branch. The branch manager, who was supposed to interview me, wasn't there (no one explained why) so another assistant manager interviewed me instead, on the shop floor with customers in close proximity.

He spent the entire time telling me what an awful company it was to work for and checking his phone as he was waiting to hear from his GF (who worked in a different branch) whether or not she'd been made redundant.

I emailed the manager as soon as I got home to withdraw my application, never got a response but over a month later got a letter from them saying they weren't offering me the job!

@startuprepair no I didn't say they shouldn't be in management positions, I've clearly said in MY experience my female line managers have been borderline psychopaths and I wouldn't take a job with a female LM. I have worked with strong female line managers that I did not report to and they were inspiring, hardworking innovators. However, I prefer to work for a male LM due to having previous bad experiences with females. This thread is about personal red flags and for me due to previous experience female LM's are one.

Asked in an interview if my assistance dog really needed to go everywhere with me.
I replied, that my dog was an assistance dog, not a pet, so the answer was yet. I also asked, if I was in a wheelchair, would you ask if my wheelchair came everywhere? They just moved onto the next question.
Didn't get that job.
It was for an internal position, where both the interviewers had seen me bringing my dog to work every day for years Confused
Complained to my then manager about it and she wasn't helpful. Complained to HR, who also weren't helpful.
Used this, and lots of other evidence, in my tribunal claim.
Settled out of court and I was very happy with settlement.
