Tips for reducing water bill?

Just that really Smile.

We’ve got our bill down to £28 per month (2 adults and 1child) and wondering if we can get it down further. Water company estimate £35 per month for a 3 person household, so we are below average usage.

We have “drought” showers.
Switch the tap off when brushing teeth, washing face / hands.
Have a rain water tank for watering the small garden.
Have a ball thing in the toilet cistern.
Don’t put washing machine or dishwasher on until full.

Any other ideas?

read just today that 25% of our energy bill is heating hot water

Is that gas or electricity? Ours in gas water heating. I turned the pre heat off on our boiler and our gas bill dropped by about £20 per year. It was permanently heating water to sit there - we only really need hot water to shower, wash hands and rinse off things off before they go in the dishwasher.

It was from website about saving energy, so think it was just a general combination of all hot water being heated in household.

@RachelLyg Why do you rinse off? Most dw manuals advice is to scrape but not rinse.

A google search revealed that our supplier (Southern Water) charges the 3rd highest rates out of all the (12?) UK suppliers. That partly explains the disparity when reading threads like this one.

@Defenbaker

United Utilities (where we are) are the 4th most expensive.

Water supply is a bit of a racket, as you can’t shop around. So the prices should be standardised.
