Toddler and crawling baby, when does it get better

My 10month old is now a speedy crawler and is totally uninterested in her own toys.

She is constantly going after DS only just turned 3's toys. I try to engage her but she will just climb over me in her persuit.

Other times DS decides whatever she has is his. He never looks at books but now they are all his books so will try and block her from getting to them.

I'm basically a referee all day. When does it get better and they play with they're own things

With mine it was very definitely when the youngest one turned 3, but even know 5 and 7 they are apt to fight over everything.

They always want the toys/tools that are not appropriate for their age, you'll have to get used to it!

Mine will always ignore the toys lovingly bought for them and much prefer a hose pipe, hammer, drill etc.

It's infuriating!

With my two it got better when DD2 could talk well enough that they could chat. She was about 19 months when that started.

I had pretty much the same age gap. If 1yo DD came over to 3yo DS I encouraged him to share or distract her away with a different toy. If he wanted what she had I asked him to find something similar and swap it with her.

Luckily DD is pretty laid back and happy to get attention from her big bro and she wasn't too worried about what she played with.

I tried not to get too involved unless there was an obvious scuffle or tears. They're not getting much socialisation at the moment and they're going to have to learn it somewhere!
