Anyone live in/near Liverpool City Centre?

Still undecided what to do with our annual leave and I thought the dc may enjoy a day or two in Liverpool. It's about 3h drive and the Premier Inn is open. We would do Knowsley one day, which I've checked is open, but I wondered how things were in the city centre?

Is anyone going into the city centre much? Are cafes and shops etc open? What about the museum's and boat trips etc?

Yeah things are open. Book some places around the docks to drink if you go :)

Hi OP - I'm not sure about tourist attractions but most shops/cafes/restaurants are open in the city, and from what I've seen pretty busy. The Mersey ferry is running, but where it's normally a small round trip with an audio guide it's now only the commuter service that takes you across the river and back (upside is it's much cheaper!) A couple of the museums are now open, including the World Museum which is my personal favourite, but you have to book in advance.

There are also plenty of beaches within a reasonable distance including Crosby, Formby, New Brighton and West Kirby. New Brighton is more like a traditional day trip beach with arcades and ice cream, and the others are just sand beaches. Formby is a NT property and has some nice woodland walks nearby as well, if you like that sort of thing.

That's good - good thinking to pre book places to sit in. We would like to have the odd tea and cake.

We have NT membership so maybe we will do that on the day we arrive as it will be a shorter day.

I think the kids will love the museums.

We've been to the beach with the statues before (pre kids) so would like to see that again with them.

Yes, Crosby beach is lovely, plus I'd echo another poster and recommend going a little further up the coast to the nature reserve at Formby with its very cute and small red squirrels.

Does the commuter ferry go to Birkenhead? Just trying to find easy parking options and the Premier Inn there has free parking.

I'm nervous that the city centre parking for overnights will be a challeneg/spendy

New Brighton has some fantastic street art which has been made into a nice little walking tour with a downloadable map, and some of the artworks are a bit interactive (standing between the fairy wings, joining a group of running people, that sort of thing) I absolutely loved finding and looking at the art although my DCs were fairly unimpressed. There was also a really good crazy golf course at the far end of the prom and we found a small but good playground near some of the artworks, looking out towards the docks, which kept the DCs happy (mine are 10 and 12). The prom area and beach were very very busy but the rest of the area was quiet and we had all of the street art to ourselves. West Kirby beach just slightly further along the Wirral is also nice although we didn't get a chance to go there last week

Yes to both Crosby and Formby Beach. Another NT place is Speke Hall, not been for years (no longer live in Liverpool) but remember loving it as a child.
I’ve heard The Dream Statue is good to walk around - it’s situated just off the M62 in Rainhill.
