First skateboard help

NerrSnerr · 05/08/2020 12:33

My 5 year old is desperate for a skateboard and we have agreed to get her one. She loves doing tricks on her scooter and wants to try on a board.

Can anyone recommend a good first skateboard? I know from scooters and bikes it can be worth spending more but wondered if this is the same with skateboards?

Any advice or recommendations will be gratefully appreciated.

We got my daughter a nice one from Skate Hut. They had a good range of boards and sizes. We got a ready made/ complete board as I wouldn't know what to choose if it came to picking the wheels and board separately.

I just discovered wheel type is important. So you need to check what type of wheels. Size of board, they have kids size ones which are more manageable.

Watching... my five year old also wants one. I ordered what I thought was a kids’ one from
Amazon and it’s massive!

Brilliant thank you, I'll take a look at Skate Hut. I'll also look into wheel size.

Try talking to a skateboard instructor from a skateboard school. They may give advice on the correct safety wear as well. They will probably do lessons which is good for youngsters to learn the correct techniques. Balancing and how to stand on the board and how to stop for example
My DGK's had lessons from the start and are much more adept then other kids who just find their own way. One has recently won a competition.
