Teenagers meeting in my house WWYD?

My DD has asked to have five friends in the house tomorrow. Covid guidance says no more than two other households indoors. However they're all going back to school next week and won't be asked to socially distance. Should I say yes or no? Not sure! Thanks all!

personally I wouldn't, I might suggest meeting in a nearby park if that's an option since they will be able to social distance there (they can each bring a picnic blanket/something to sit on and snacks, the weather is meant to be nice). Or could they social distance in your garden without coming in the house?

mosquitofeast · 04/08/2020 21:06

Absolutely not.

mosquitofeast · 04/08/2020 21:07

what is the point in everything the schools are doing to minimise the risks as far as possible if parents allow mixing like this away from school?

Stick them in the garden. Otherwise no.

lljkk · 04/08/2020 21:11

is it in the rules to meet outside (garden, woods, beach?)
I'd try to stay in whatever-are-the rules.

EwwSprouts · 04/08/2020 21:13

I would say in the garden only.

Yellowfeather · 04/08/2020 21:15

Fill the fridge and keep out of the way!

Chloemol · 04/08/2020 21:16

No, not in the house. If they stay in the garden social distancing then ok

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2020 21:20

Yes definitely in garden.

If they think the rules don't really matter then when they get to school and have certain restrictions placed in them it'll be harder to force them to comply.

Lookyloo · 04/08/2020 21:21

Why are kids going back to school next week? If that's the case, then I'd have no problems. Stick them out the back garden and tell them to socially distance - you'll soon see how effective distancing at school will be. I personally think it's time to get on with it and get over it or our lives are going to be destroyed either way.

Beamur · 04/08/2020 21:25

Schools in Scotland go back soon.
I'd stick with the advice, however bonkers it is. Two households only indoors, more than that outdoors.

DailyKegelReminder · 04/08/2020 21:25

I wouldn't have a problem with this.

LockdownLoser · 04/08/2020 21:27

If they are going to be mixing in school anyway I don't see what the problem is. If the weather is dry stick them in the garden.

Akrotiri1 · 04/08/2020 21:33

My son had 6 friends around for his 18th last week - they had a bbq and stayed out in the garden.

We are in Wales but tbh I have now lost track over what we can and can't do.....

mosquitofeast · 04/08/2020 21:39

@LockdownLoser

If they are going to be mixing in school anyway I don't see what the problem is. If the weather is dry stick them in the garden.
that is what is going to take us into a massive second wave. People who "can't see what the problem is" with ignoring all measures to contain infections.

BECAUSE there is going to be increased danger of the disease spreading at school, it is CRUCIAL that we are obsessively careful about preventing spread happening else where too.

Morfin · 04/08/2020 21:41

As soon as my kids go back I'm going to allow stuff like this. How can you justify them sitting in a room of 33 young adults six hours a day but then say they can't mix indoors with those same kids they are in school with. Just because one indoor room is called a classroom and the other a sitting room?

CherieBabySpliffUp · 04/08/2020 21:43

Are they all in the same year (so would be in the same bubble in school?)

IAintentDead · 04/08/2020 21:44

Let them get on with it. We have taken enough of their childhood away from them for something that is minimally risky for them.

Make sure there is plenty of hand sanitizer around, and if you can run to it easily a separate different coloured towel each in the loo.

They aren't households, they are not responsible for shopping, they are not working outside the home.

So long as none have them have been ill or had ill parents/siblings in the previous week there really is minimal risk.

Morfin · 04/08/2020 21:46

mosquitofeast I disagree, we've followed the rules to the letter. But if they go back to school with out any SD not having a few mates over is like trying to stop the tide with a matchstick.

feemcgee · 04/08/2020 22:01

Thanks all, I'm going to say no - they can meet outside somewhere!
