We're moving house next week and I'm stressed! I've moved house many times before but this is the first time with three small children (5, 3, 8 months) and a fair distance too.

Hit me with your top tips for staying sane, whole and serene please!

Hello we moved on Lockdown day! My tips would be:
Write lists and cross things off, simple but nothing will get forgotten.

Write on each packing box which room it is going in and a brief summary of contents.

On the day have a box with : kettle, mugs, tea, milk, antibacterial spray, kitchen roll, loo roll and soap

If you have a pet, take a box in your car with food, bowls, bed and essentials so it’s all handy.

Have a first night box, bed sheets, towels, pjs, toiletries and clothes for the next day.

Have a bag with a few spare lightbulbs, a torch, a screwdriver and scissors in. You are bound to need one of these!

Have a cash tip for the removal men, ours were worth their weight in gold.

Good Luck!

If you aren't paying for packers, the start packing now. Pick a room and make it the storage room, even if that means bunking kids with you or each other to free up space.

Pack. Pack. Pack. Label the box "room box belongs in" rather than what's in it. Chuck stuff you don't want to take.

Dismantle non essential furniture and put that in the packing room too.

The Day before you move, dismantle all beds and sleep on the mattresses on the floor.

Fabulous ideas, thank you! How the hell do I leave the house clean amidst the chaos? I just can't imagine dodging the movers with a hoover and a baby attached to the boob?!

Pay the packers. Yes, expensive but worth every single penny. They pack up in a day, you can just do your personal and valuable stuff.

Deep clean over the next week.

Then on moving day leave the mop and vacuum out with some wipes. Once they've loaded the van quick vac through, wipe down the loo and surfaces, mop yourself out the door.

What s the situation in your house right now?

Make us a list!

I'm watching this post as moving soon too. Some things I've read to do:

  • pack a suitcase of clean clothes/PJs, and nappies/dummies etc
  • For hanging clothes, I'd read that you tie the hanging hook with an rubber band, then use a bing bag to enclose the clothes, then tie the top. It keeps the clothes dust free and they can be hung straight away- no need to get them on and off hangers
  • I realise you are leaving tomororw, but going through each cupboard beforehand and getting rid of things you dont wear and dont use, chipped mugs etc so there is less to take.

Number the rooms in the house you are going to and number boxes in each corresponding room.

Write a list of everything you will need for the first few days and pack them and also mark them to go to one spot together.

Have sleeping bags for the first few days and their own pillows.

Any special teddies need to be treated like gold...do not lose.

Leave a box of cleaning stuff at your house so you can do that when they head.

Pay packers.
Honestly just pay them. It is so worth it.
