What's the house job that makes a home look clean and cosy?

A bit 1950's housewife but have spent the day unpacking from holiday a week after coming home , doing washing and sorting stuff out. The house is cleaner but doesn't feel as organised and sorted as i'd like.
What can I do to bring this place make look cosy as well as clean? I am a slattern but do like to live somewhere where people don't wipe their feet on the way out Grin.

I'm interested in the robot hoover too. For those that have one.

Does it collect much dirt? It doesn't look like it would hold much.

Does it do all the floor or just bits and do you have to move it guide it?

Does it do all types of flooring?

How long does it last before charging?

TrickyD · 05/08/2020 11:21

Finny, thanks, no shaggy rugs just short pile, probably should be ok.

FinnyStory · 05/08/2020 11:23

I feel I should ask for commission Grin

I didn't think it could hold much but it has a surprisingly large collection box/pod (?) and compacts the fluff. I'd say it picks up about the same amount in a full session as my Dyson does, although you do need to empty it everytime, it takes seconds.

It's fine moving between my carpets, tiled kitchen and wooden hall floor.

I think he does a thorough job, covers the whole floor including corners and edges eventually but he's not particularly efficient about it, goes over the same bits repeatedly. I think on some models you can "programme" your rooms but I haven't worked that out.

Lasts 1.5 hours on a full charge, takes about an hour to do downstairs. Takes himself back to the charger when he's getting hungry Grin

Does the robot go over door saddles? I fear I am too untidy to have one roaming around upstairs but maybe downstairs would work.

Thanks for that info. Off to get me one of these.

Fluffing cushions and curtain drawn tidily

TrickyD · 05/08/2020 13:26

Finny , another query, sorry. Which model have you got, there seems to be a confusing number?

FinnyStory · 05/08/2020 14:49

I know there are! They seem to have a lot of deals and if I'm honest I chose a mid priced one that had a lot knocked off on the day. I would have been there forever trying too work out what was different about them all. It's 15C Max

TrickyD · 06/08/2020 13:30

Hi Finny, you are responsible for my paying £195 for a Eufy 50C which was on offer. I will blame you if it scares our cat.

Theimpossiblegirl · 06/08/2020 13:34

Don't have kids, or if you do, don't let them be teenagers.
My house is clean and tidy and I love it, as long as 2 doors remain closed so I can't see their mess.

AlessandroVasectomi · 06/08/2020 14:27

Hoovering the lounge carpet, taking the sofas apart and hoovering them, then replacing the cushions after straightening and plumping them up and finally plumping up the scatter cushions and arranging them neatly. Looks fabulous and really inviting, but after an evening of watching tv slumped over the sofas it looks just as bad all over again!

FinnyStory · 06/08/2020 15:38

I think the cat will like riding on it Grin

HellonHeels · 07/08/2020 08:30

I am such a sheep, just bought a Eufy!

TrickyD · 07/08/2020 11:55

HellonHeels, we will have to compare notes. Because I bought mine from the Eufy site, delivery takes 6-9 days, but it was £54 cheaper than Amazon though I would have had it today with Prime. ☹️
Looking at the reviews it seems obligatory to give it a name. I am leaning towards Finny for ours.

Ohsuchaperfectday · 07/08/2020 11:59

If the decor and furnishings aren't good to begin with , no amount of hoovering etc will help.

So first good decor, furnishing... Then hoovering or just basic cleaning,

TWAMSWIAO · 07/08/2020 12:01

Do the eufys replace your big hoovers or they additional? Our shark is on its way out I suspect and will probably get a new hoover for our new carpet we’re getting soon.

TrickyD · 07/08/2020 12:29

TWAMSWIAO , mine hasn’t been delivered yet, but I assume it will be additional. We already have two Karchers, one for up, one for downstairs and they are great but a nuisance to get out, plus a rechargeable Dyson, excellent for stairs, but the idea of the Eufy trundling around was very appealing.
There is another current thread about what item changed your life and the Eufy robovac has plenty of fans there.

JadesRollerDisco · 07/08/2020 12:33

Don't cook or eat in the house as much as possible and work long hours, go out as much as possible. And have a cleaner. Also throw away 90% of everything you own. Still looks messy? Throw another 5% away.

Or just clean and tidy constantly if you have young kids

willowmelangell · 07/08/2020 12:49

I would say keep the hallway clear as possible. One coat each, one pair of shoes etc
Easier said than done I know. I have recycling bags, charity bags etc all down one side of my hall. Hopefully temporarily...
One thing I do is, pretend a visitor is knocking the door and I have time to tidy 3 things.
