Have had the little one 2 days now.
This is the 3rd night.

Last night we took him out at 12 and he wailed and moaned until 1. I have had to sleep downstairs with him. He is crated.

Tonight at the moment he is asleep in crate with door open.
He was fed around 745.

Will take him out again for toilet shortly.

So should I try and settle him around 1030 for the night and attempt to go upstairs to bed?? Setting alarm for 2ish
Or stay up until midnight and try to settle him??

Last two nights I have set my alarm for 6am to take him out.

I honestly wouldn’t leave him alone where you can’t hear them. Little puppies sometimes cannot hold their bladder long at all. And plus, they are not used to sleeping alone...

I agree that you should be near the puppy at night for comfort and toileting at the moment. We had the crate in our bedroom initially but were able to move it downstairs after 2 weeks or so. It made the first few nights to much easier for everyone and puppy settled in very quickly.

Ignore any moaning in the crate unless puppy needs the toilet. Otherwise you teach that moaning = attention.

I would never leave a puppy till they are ready. U don’t want him to start being anxious at that stage being left alone. That will not help with u have to leave them on their own later.

Agree with PPs he’s still so young and probably missing his mum and litter mates. He needs company at the moment and you can move him downstairs when ready. And use lots and lots of puppy pads and accept he’ll have accidents.

Putting in an old piece of clothing (that you aren’t worried will get ruined) that smells of you may help to settle him much faster.

Try asking over on the doghouse board. There are specific puppy threads which might help.

I would either bring his crate up to the bedroom or bring your bed downstairs. He's only little so he needs you with him.
