Are these bites?

DD(4) keeps letting these on her leg, they're itchy. Any idea what would be causing them? I have cats but they're treated for fleas every month and there's no sign of them in the house. Nobody else gets bitten. Nobody at her dads either. Any ideas?

They do look like fleabites if she is sensitive to them. It could be that she's hyper sensitive and the rest of you aren't.

I used to get reactions to cat flea bites like that and my ex had nothing at all, although he must have been getting equally bitten.

If your cat goes out it might bring back live fleas that have a chance to bite her before they die.

And in this hot weather I imagine any cat roaming around that isn't treated must be running alive, as fleas love hot weather.

Crap. What can I do then other than treat her bites? My cats are all up to date and the cat flap will only open for my cats.

Could be flea bites but it would be quite the reaction.

Hopefully it's not, but I'd check for bedbugs.

I've no experience of cats/fleas but all of us get quite big reactions to insect bites - and that is an allergic reaction to a bite IMO. Are you giving a liquid anti-histamine? Best round the clock for 72 hrs and a low dose steroid cream on top of itchy/hot. Do they happen at night? In same place on the body? Pyjamas tucked in socks & long sleeved may stop it.

There doesn't seem any rhyme or reason to when they happen, she had slept at her dads last night and spent the morning in her grandparents garden before I noticed them this afternoon. Today is the first time she's complained of them being itchy so I'm going to get an antihistamine cream tomorrow at the pharmacy.

Whenever they have happened it's always been on the lower half of the lower leg.

Still sounds like cat fleas to me, as their first approach is to jump off the floor onto the lower leg.

Cat fleas can live in the grass for a while waiting for a passing host.

But if your cats are treated, then fleas shouldn't be able to get a foothold on them. So I imagine as the colder Autumn weather starts the random ones should die off.
