Some of you may remember me from last week having a breakdown about my rent and I'm still in the same situation!Basically after begging and pleading with UC to pay my rent on the day it's due (1st aug) they are still refusing and won't pay it until the 15th.(first claim) Please can someone help me draft a letter to my landlord explaining this?shes really nice and I love my house more than anything I don't want to get evicted!im so worried and having constant panic attacks but I want to write a very nice letter explaining my situation so hopefully she understands. Thankyou very much everyone.

Just for more info I did pay rent and a deposit the day I moved in so only from Saturday I'm now in arrears and it's seriously effecting me I'm ill.

Could you just your landlord to move the payment date to the 15th?

Otherwise I'd phone Shelter for advice. They should be able to advise you on what to do or put in the letter.

wishthiswasreallife · 03/08/2020 16:55

Do any landlords think that would be ok if a tenant asked them to move the date?iv made myself so ill over this,Iv emailed shelter, council, citizens advice etc nothing

I think you need to phone her and explain everything, if she's nice like you say I'm sure she will be understanding. Put together a plan to pay the 2 weeks you will effectively be missing, but make sure it's something you will be able to afford as making promises you can't keep will be even more stress for you. Make sure you sort this sooner rather than later though, i hope all goes well for you 😊

Best thing you can do is let your LL know asap so they can plan financially - they may be reliant on your rent coming in to pay the mortgage, the more time you give them the less annoyed they'll be.

As for moving the date, I think most landlords would be amenable to that as long as you are still paying for the full time, e.g. not expecting 2 weeks free rent.

One of our tenants asked this and I had no problem with it, I was just pleased that they had had the sense to ask.

wishthiswasreallife · 03/08/2020 17:22

Ok so it's a possibility that it will be ok,if I pay all the rent Iv missed too.Im registered disabled so writing an email/letter in the correct way to my landlord is totally beyond me that's why I was asking for help

How about something like this for the wording:

^Dear Lovely Landlord,

Currently my Universal Credit is paid to me on the 15th of the month. I have contacted the DWP and asked if this could be amended to be paid on the 1st of the month to match up with when my rent is due but my request has been refused.

Given the above would it be possible to move the date my rent is paid to the 15th?

I understand that moving the date of the rent payment would mean that I would be 2 weeks behind so I propose paying you an extra £xx each month until I am up to date.

I would be very grateful if you could consider the above and let me know your thoughts.

Many thanks,
Donut^

I would say email is better, easy to keep a record of your communication with your landlady.

wishthiswasreallife · 03/08/2020 22:34

Well it took me all day,but Iv sent the email. Now I won't sleep waiting for the reply thinking I'm going to be sent an eviction notice.

OP posts:
wishthiswasreallife · 04/08/2020 12:51

Cheesecakejar · 04/08/2020 16:55

Have you had a reply yet?

wishthiswasreallife · 04/08/2020 17:22

UPDATE

My landlady phoned me and she was so lovely on the phone she was really so understanding at Iv managed to calm down. She is fine with the 15th and all is fine thank god! Thanks for everyone's help,I got myself into a terrible state making myself really ill over it.

OP posts:
sleepismysuperpower1 · 04/08/2020 17:27

oh, I'm really glad OP!

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2020 17:47

I'm really pleased it's worked out.

IME LL know when they have a good tenant. It's one who panics about paying rather than acts like the LL is at fault for expecting rent!

ApocalypseNowt · 04/08/2020 19:52

Yay! I'm so pleased for you OP SmileThanks
