Are we in the minority, not having dessert after meals?

Just wondering really, we don't often have any form if dessert at meals. Occasionally I'll make a crumble or something.

We only have dessert when we invite people over otherwise.

We have it now and again - I don't count how regularly but every couple of weeks at a guess.
We always have dessert if we have visitors but very rarely if we're eating out.
I bake quite a bit but we'd tend to eat that as an afternoon snack rather than after a meal.
No weight issues here. 🙂

MintyCedric · 03/08/2020 12:32

We might have at the weekend but otherwise don't bother.

EyeDrops · 03/08/2020 13:21

We always have something, but 9/10 times it's just a yoghurt, rice pudding, small biscuit or something. It's become more of a habit over lockdown.

barberousbarbara · 03/08/2020 13:26

We always have something sweet after our evening meal but it's normally fruit, a small scoop of sorbet or an ice lolly. Once or twice per week we'll have a couple of squares of chocolate or a bowl of popcorn if we're watching a film. We don't snack between meals and are both healthy weights.

Growing up I always had yoghurt or ice cream for pudding but I was a competitive swimmer so soon burnt the calories off. The habit has followed me into adulthood and it doesn't feel right if I don't have something sweet to finish off a meal.

melonhead · 03/08/2020 13:27

We usually have a square of chocolate, or chopped up fruit, or I'll make a crumble or tiramisu, or I'll buy something like chocolate mouse, or ice cream...

Spidey66 · 03/08/2020 13:28

Usually just fruit or yogurt.

MrDarcysMa · 03/08/2020 13:30

I have a massive sweet tooth so we tend to have a square of chocolate after a meal or a mini low cal mousse pot. Otherwise I would happily eat a full dessert every meal but I'd be the size of a house.

Meruem · 03/08/2020 13:31

I was brought up with dessert every day and did the same with my DC (now adults). But now none of us ever want it. It's a very occasional thing in our house. My mum in her 70's has I think had a dessert every day of her life! She would be horrified to give that up. But then she purposely has a small main to leave room whereas I prefer to fill up on the main.

RandallLOVESBeth · 03/08/2020 13:33

We have ‘pudding’ on Sundays only.

Sometimes me & DH have chocolate with a cuppa later of an evening, although trying to knock that habit on the head to shift a few lockdown pounds 😬

EmmaStone · 03/08/2020 13:52

We've got sweet teeth in this family and will usually have something sweet after lunch and dinner, but rarely a 'pudding'. Tends to be chocolate or biscuits for us.

We're all slim and DH and I very active.

kezziethecat · 03/08/2020 14:02

We usually do to be honest, usually just a yoghurt or some fruit but something fancier at the weekend. I never eat in the evening though and don't really snack. I love dessert.

DramaAlpaca · 03/08/2020 14:03

We never do except on special occasions or when we have guests.

coffeerice · 03/08/2020 14:03

Rarely had puddings despite my DH asking everyone night for 35 years!!!
Since we have been at home due to Covid we have a pud every day now.
Time rich and it makes DH happy.
I've mastered ice cream so there's always a few flavours to choose from if nothing else is available.
We also have drinks before dinner now too.
It's lovely.

Mybobowler · 03/08/2020 14:34

We always have something after dinner, in front of the TV. Often a cup of tea with a biscuit or two (or a small bowl of 'kids' cereal, because my inner teenager refuses to grow up). Very rarely have "proper" dessert - usually only when we have people round for dinner, or occasionally if I go to the supermarket when hungry and the GU puds are on offer...

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/08/2020 14:37

If we get the "2 dine" offer then we eat the dessert, but the main and side aren't huge so there's room.

After normal meals we don't do dessert. The kids may grab a piece of fruit if still hungry.

Dh and I have been known to share a bit of chocolate around 8pm if we put a film on.

mindutopia · 03/08/2020 14:41

Only ever have dessert after Sunday lunch (and not every time). Usually only for special occasions or if we have guests.

Enderman · 03/08/2020 14:43

The kids have a yoghurt usually. As it’s summer they tend to have an ice cream. I rarely make an actual pudding.

ApplesinmyPocket · 03/08/2020 14:44

Pudding of some kind every day here (ancient crone with even more ancient DH.) DH is skinny and loves his puds. Can be a traditional pud with custard, or mousse or yogurt or icecream sundaes or cheesecake.

We never snack though. Nowadays I think it's more usual that people don't have puddings but do snack regularly.

uniglowooljumper · 03/08/2020 14:45

Only on special occasions. DS has ADHD and DH has a massive sweet tooth so no go (DH is diabetic).

Runnerduck34 · 03/08/2020 14:57

As a child we always had "afters", something like angel delight, rice pudding , jelly and ice cream or an apple crumble. Its a tradition I have continued.
DH family rarely ate dessert but always had larger dinners and also ate much later, sadly combining the two eating patterns has done no favours for my waistline although DH and DC remain unscathed!
